Should Airports be privatised
by Sidramesh on Jan 31, 2006 03:39 PM  Permalink

Hi,

This was expected when Government joined hands with left front. The world knows that they are parasites. It is the mistake of UPA to encourage such parties. I hope all the parties learn from this.

Airport
by ANB on Jan 31, 2006 03:39 PM  Permalink

Its high time,
All UK airports are private. Even a seaport in India is private.

Ultimately the airports are the property of ALL Citizens of India (not the fee previledged leftists), they through their elected representative (the govt) should decide whether to sell them or keep them.

I think its better to sell these airports. Govt should give the money to the poor as education vouchers so they can go to the best private schools and educate themselves.

Airport Privatisation: Initial labour pains
by Rahul on Jan 31, 2006 03:36 PM  Permalink

The initial hiccups.. Threat of strike by airport workers is nothing but the initial labour pains which happen before anything new is born. The government should take tough stand on airport privatisation and go ahead with it!!

Airports must be privatised that too immediately.
by Prasanna on Jan 31, 2006 03:31 PM  Permalink

Yes ... Airports must be privatised not only Mumbai & Delhi but other too.
IF Employees could have improved or modernised the same who stoped them till this time.
Government must impose ESMA and go ahead with privatisation process. Govt. is already lagging behind in their program and must expedite the process.

Airport Modernisation
by Venkat Ramanan on Jan 31, 2006 03:29 PM  Permalink

Should the Airpors be modernised? YES
Should AAI be let to modernise them? NO WAY
Why not? WHAT WERE THEY DOING SO FAR WHEN IT WAS BEING MAINTAINED BY THEM?
Why do you want to modernise? OH MY GOD! The one that already exists sucks big time!!
Are you satisfied with the present airport employess?? NO NO NO. I don't know where they were trained so hopelessly. Their present state is pathetic.
So What should be done now? Layoff all AAI people (their attitude is so moulded that they may not change under any management), hand over the airports to efficient airport operators who run airports worldwide, closely monitor the modernisation process and put behind bars everyone who protest, first jail yechury and all CPI-M and left leaders!!! They are stopping we Indians from having world class facilities!!

By all means! a resounding YES!!!!
by rayker on Jan 31, 2006 03:25 PM  Permalink

ask 10 people at an airport if they'd like the service to be better - nine would definetely vote/ask for a better service. Airports evoke a range of negative emotions: fear of the unscrouplous authorities, highandedness, unfriendly, unprofessional behaviour by most of the staff. There's no guarantee, that the privatisation will help eradicate all of the issues. but it will sure improve a lot for sure. the private organisations might hire the very same persons who run the airport currently, but under a professional management, they will be under pressure for performance. and better still - a private party can be removed for a better running - if there are too many complaints. if its the government - the governmnt themselves wouldnt listen! but it should not be without regulation. for eg. The delhi power scene is worse off than before! monopolies like reliance can upset the whole scene. i think that the regulators play an important role everywhere. privatise, with caution, let the opportunity spread to all levels of the society - fair and equal employment for all.

airport privatisation
by AN on Jan 31, 2006 03:16 PM  Permalink

It is absolutely ridiculous of the Left to oppose any privatisation of 2 of the major apts of India. They and their cronies in the Labour Unions have only time and again managed to put reforms initiated by this govt back by at least 2-3 decades !!! When will they realise that Marxism / Communism has gone down the drain and it is only in their national interests that they dont allow the country to follow !!!! I wish that someone fm ur portal has the guts to slap this msg on the faces of Somnath Chatterjee, Sitaram Yechury and gang !!!

Privatization of Airports
by Vishvas Rao on Jan 31, 2006 02:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All Airports in India should be privatized. Atleast travellers would have a good feeling as soon as they land back in their country after a long time. AAI has no business to stall these processes. When they cannot maintain a toilet in the Airport properly, how can they be expected to maintain the entire airport properly? Just have a look at airports outsite India. None of our Airports stand anywhere near them.

Sir this is my opinion on airport privatisation I agree that the toilets of the airport are not in proper conditions but it doesnot mean we should totally blame the AAI it is GOVT. who should be blamed for not having proper authority. IF we look at the power sector it has been privatised but still it has not benefited the consumers in any way.My opinion would be to give a chance to AAI and have a strong Rules and regulations

Airports need to be modernised, but AAI should be given a chance.
Privatisation is not the only answer. The new wing at Mumbai done up
by AAI is looking slick. The people manning these airports and the
services needs to be looked at as well.
