The boom in the economy is mostly becuase of the private sector and the heavy industries. Where have the government employees helped the economy grow? If these people had done their job sincerely, India today would have overtaken China in all the developmental projects and government coffers would have been full enough to give a raise to its employees a handsome raise. What these people need is to have a pay package based on the performance, so that the sincere people in government jobs get their due and all the lazy ones are shown the door. Another factor the government should consider is the total abolition of Reservation in any sector. This would bring in true democracy and help the government manage its resources properly.
I guess the article has not been read in the right spirit. There is no wrong in having a hike for Govt employees on the contrary every one deserves a good rise every 2-3 years. The problem is the headcount. The number of Govt employees is huge and the output/efficiency is in the negative. Pay commissions do not mean pay hike they mean balancing productivity with expediture. A look at Govt machinery will tell us that the cost for such a hike is not welcome. The left and comunists are out here to destroy the country so that China can take over us. But for a developing country like our Salaries should be linked to performance otherwise the whole country will become a West Bengal, 25 paise will still be prevalent but we will not have any modern facilities
Te government has to devise an effective way of inceasing the remuneration of its employees but it has to be linked to its performance, efficiency etc.
Proper training schedules should be drawn up to motivate the employees just like in the private sectors and it should be made compulsory for the employees to attend them.
Further the Govt. must amend the existent laws related to working of its employees so that it can impose stringent punishment and penalties upon corupt and callous employees and announce cash incentives to the deserving servants. Only then can a further rise in pay scales can bring real fruits in the public service
When everybody is reaping the benefit of India's economic growth, why govt. and PSU employees should suffer. they have also needs and dreams. they also want to have a prosperous life. Because of some corrupt govt. employees, please don't typecast the whole class. most of the govt. employees live worst conditions. pvt. sector is more corrupt than govt.sector.
Its national concern and not about few thousand govt looters. We have the system whereby to do development work of Rs.10, we are incurring Rs. 90!!!!??? THIS CAN HAPPEN ONLY IN INDIA. Its better to outsource whatever the work(!!??)govt employee does. Then only it will be transparent & efficiant.
The economy is booming. Indian employers of private companies increased their salaries to 14 per cent last year. Govts has almost stopped new recruitments in the past few years. All state public service commissions seldom recruits new employees. Most of the vaccant posts are being surrendered. Software and managment sectors booming and their employees earn about 200 times higher salaries than an ordinary govt servant. In viwe of these scenario, why the govt servant should be kept stagnant and continue economic suffering?
A better standard of living with a better salary can definitely increase, productivity, wealth generation and progress.Do we have any example of a developed country in the world that made accomplishments by paying less or stagnating employee's salary!. Why poor govt employees should be blamed for things which are not understood correctly by the critics?
Look who's talking... While the MPs and MLAs have had their salary increments more than 26 times since independence and that too on a oral vote, the government employees who earn paltry salaries do not even have the right to have a salary hike at all!!! Hipocrats all around! I do not understand this... we all complain about the high corruption levels in govt departments but have we done a root cause analysis? Can the govt really justify the salary of a COP who works 18 Hrs a day on an avg for a salary of 5K?
And for those who think I am a govt employee, I am not!
It's interesting to see how those outside the government view those within; as a bunch of lazy, corrupt, indolent people. Aren't we painting them all with a single brush? How about all the defence personnel who also earn government salaries, and who are posted in all sorts of god-forsaken places doing thankless jobs to keep everybody else safe? (OK, so now I'm painting you all with the same brush!!)
I've been in the armed forces for the past 18 years, and my average salary has grown by 6% per year. Interestingly, the average salary in India Inc. has been growing at an average of 11-13% (don't take my word for it, read the newspapers). My present salary is 20% (yes, TWENTY PERCENT) of someone doing the same line of work outside with the same experience. Is it any wonder then, that the defence forces are having a massive shortfall of people in their ranks? And that their workload is effectively up 50% from 20 years back, but they are earning the same salary for it?
Isn't it also interesting that the maximum income tax received is from government employees themselves? Nobody seems to factor that in, certainly not the obscenely rich India Inc. lot who pay peanuts and crib!
