justified
by dr. faizal on Aug 14, 2006 08:14 PM  Permalink

Kerala Government's ban on colas & pepsi are 100% justified. In the U.S.A a ban on these soft drinks are implemneted in the schoools,a move that comes amid increased pressure to curb the epidemic of childhood obesity.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)policy points out that sweetened drinks constitute the primary source of added sugar in the daily diet of children, and that each 12-ounce serving of a carbonated, sweetened soft drink contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar. Sugared soft drink consumption has been associated with increased risk of overweight and obesity, currently the most common medical condition of childhood. Additional health problems associated with high intake of sweetened drinks are dental cavities and potential enamel erosion.
Kerala goverment has banned all the cola drinks . kudos to them for having concern about the health of their people.

kola ban
by R. K. Mohanty on Aug 14, 2006 08:09 PM  Permalink

All drinks, including water and milk have pesticides in them, in our country. And ,of course, the pesticides are in the cola because of the water used for their manufacture/production.It is better to drink milk instead of any cola, for obvious reasons. So, the Govt. should see to it that more milk is produced and marketted through organisations like Amul.People should be discouraged to drink colas or beer in large quantities, they should rather go for milk. The Govt. may not ban colas, but must educate people about the benefit of drinking milk and fruit juices, which are just slightly costlier than colas.

Is the ban on Coke justified ?
by ltcolravindranath on Aug 14, 2006 08:07 PM  Permalink

Dear Editor,

After 59 years of independence we are all feeling every thing is justified. Because till the time the corruption is allowed to remain in the blood streams of our country, and crimes against people of india, is jusrtified, by the corrupt politicians, corrupt beaurocrats, even some religious heads and their nexes of varied types of criminals, ban on cola is a minor thing and people of our country have no option given by above said criminals and rulers, with no differentiation of any party, using their muscel and money power.

People of this country are taken for a ride by all these parties and rulers alike and the religious teachers, beaurocrats. I feel another freedom strugle to fight this manace is essential by the people and for the people.

Are you paid by Pepsi or Coke?
by Chris John on Aug 14, 2006 08:02 PM  Permalink

What irritated me most in your writ-up was the statement about agitation against the Cola Plant in Plachimada, Kerala. You wrote "a claim thrown out by courts and denied even by the local panchayats". Which means either of two things.
1. Either you have no idea of ground realities of whats happening there and are writing after an arial view of the news-paper clippings on the subject.
2. Or you are bloody paid by Coke and Pepsi.

Daring to be different is fine, but base your blabber on ground realities please.

coke & pepsi should not be banned
by nirmal on Aug 14, 2006 08:00 PM  Permalink

Dear readers,
Pepsi and coke are much more safer than the water available in slums for consumption which people are drinking. Several reports have been that sewage contents are more in drinking water supplied to innocent people living in remote villages and slums which they are consumming daily, whereas no human lives on colas. My advise to anystate government which plans to ban colas should first ensure safe drinking water with zero percent sewage and pesticide.
vegetables and fruits available in markets also contain pesticide. Pesticides are not mixed intentionally but they are present in ground water used in making colas. There is no study that death was reported due to colas, whereas daily several deaths are due to smoking and alcohol. why goverment doesnt consider banning these? bcos they make more revenues out of cigarettes and alcohol. Banning colas is to extract money from these MNC. also i advise sunita narain to conduct similar tests to drinking water consumed in slums and rural areas.

Pepsi Ban
by Imran on Aug 14, 2006 07:54 PM  Permalink

No. Unless India as a country is OK with drinking confirmed poision in nonconfirmed poison.
The money spend on the media influences youngsters specially and I think we can afford to have some part of our young generation wasted drinking INTERNATIONAL POISON considering our population.
I really would love to know if these companies do away with the same CRAP in their own countries.
