Ban on Coke is unjustified
by Hari on Aug 15, 2006 02:18 AM  Permalink

Bannig Coke is absolutely ridiculous.
Our Politicians should be first educated in International business and foreign trade. They don't even know how much impact it will have on the FDI flowing into our country by enacting to such stupid acts without any proper investigation.
Already our country has bad ratings in terms of Political risk, and this act will reduce our ranking even more, and it is only a matter of time India will be listed next to Afghanistan and Iraq in terms of Political risk for foreign investments.

Government should only create awareness
by Arun Govindan on Aug 15, 2006 01:05 AM  Permalink

Its really irony that everybody have access to Cigarettes, liquor and adult certified movies but no Coke!!??

Had Coke/Pepsi been Indian owned, I'm sure the result of pesticide findings would not have created such a furore and bans.

Ban on Colas
by Nithin on Aug 15, 2006 12:49 AM  Permalink

Yes, the ban is justified.
The second incident of the presence of pesticides in these Colas and the corporates dont do anything to improve the quality. For the profit made they can afford to use better water than what is directly taken from the ground. But they rather pay celebrities a lot of money to endorse their products.
Children drink these colas. How is it fair to compare these drinks with gutka and tobacco. Colas are supposed to be safer than that. When the companies are paid for their colas, they have a responsibility to give what they promise, a SAFE drink, not try to prove that cola with pesticide is safe.
There is a lot of important things the government has ignored. But it does not mean this incident also should be ignored.

slow poison
by Balaji on Aug 15, 2006 12:45 AM  Permalink

If it is proved in random samples of pepsi and coke taken from all over the country in view of reports of fertilisers in them, not only the ban is justified, both companies should be penalised for the extent of damage they have done to the consumers. What sri Ramdevji has been saying all these years that they are not fit for consumption, has become true if these reports of fertiliser mix have to be believed. Now the ball is clearly in the court of Brinda Karats to take this issue to the central and state Gov's to help people know the truth.Otherwise all their fight for social cause or people's rights is only a show and eyewash to hoodwink the people.

is the ban on coke justified ?
by gaurav sharma on Aug 15, 2006 12:03 AM  Permalink

yes, it is a right step taken by govt. of some states in india. these MNCs have no regards for indians and india's legislation, few years ago same malpractice was pointed and a notice was also issesd to them but they have not do anything to make their products pacticides free.
As we know that cold drinks are not good for health as itself but with pacticides they are dangerous. Now cold drinks hvae been become a addiction for most of as they need it to feel active because their body need these pasticides it is a form addiction.
Know it is the time to say "NO TO PEPSI-COLA"

It is justified
by msmani on Aug 14, 2006 11:58 PM  Permalink

It is fully justified to ban this product since it is in countries like India where human life has no value. Instead of answering directly to the question on pesticide content they claim that it is safe. It is best to sell it to agricultrist who can spray it to the plant for protection

No.
by Girish on Aug 14, 2006 11:51 PM  Permalink

It is true that these cold beverages maybe unsafe, maybe consuming up sugar and water and other resources, and probably un-worthy of us Indians, but the best way to counter it is simply by not consuming it. I have decided not to consume pepsi, coke but I equally strongly disagree with govt. deciding to ban things. These govts. are run by people of last century when globalisation and free markets did not exist. Dont worry, these things do not last long.
Let the consumer decide business and let the people decide governance. That should how it should be.
