No Reservation....
by Digvijay Arya on Aug 14, 2007 12:35 PM  Permalink

i m an Btech student and strongly feel against this QUota issue.
When our constitution granted reservation to SC/Sts they were indeed quite backward & it was taken as a short term action which would be turned down when they r at par bt this actually never happened.
now the only thing happening is politics....the actually targeted people really never got the benefit and this LOOP HOLE was used by others to have the best at the least cost.
What i hv observed in technical institutes is tht majority ofthe students coming from sc/st quota r belonging to rich families who get facilities more than an avg student bt still aren't really doing tht good....the outcome is tht who really deserved the seat r always in the waiting list or no list as such.

so pls even if plan to give reservation do it for the people in need of it nt the so called creamy layer.
the reservation must b salary /income based rather then caste based

not comparable
by anisha on Jun 06, 2006 12:26 AM  Permalink

I'm an ethnic Indian student, born and raised in the US. Indeed while both affirmative action & reservations are muddy issues without clear solutions, it must be noted that they are not comparable. In the US, affirmative action is targeted for minority students--but not all minority students. This policy solely benefits African-Americans, Latinos, & Native Americans. Indians and most other Asians, for example, are not included. Why? Primarily because there is a strong basis of decades of inequality towards the former group. The latter on the other hand migrated largely as educated professionals (though this is not all-inclusive). Affirmative action policies are so controversial in the US because they often blindly take ethnicity & race into consideration, neglecting economic inequality. In fact, many universities are now trying to correct this problem by accepting students that show promise, even if their applications are slightly weaker than more economically advantaged students. IMO, India & the US both can benefit if they adjust their admittance policies to adhere to accepting economically disadvantaged students regardless of caste, religion, and/or regional background, etc.

reservation

People who oppose reservation have no realization about Indian society and history. First caste developed based on work they did and then it became a family thing. Certain people were not allowed to go to school and people who had power ruled others.
Go and visit Indian villages and then cities, you will see the difference. A guy who comes from a village and poor family, and other guy who has all facilities in home living in the city. Attending school for these two guys are very different stories. Just imagine, a mother has two kids, one is handicapped and other is physically fit. Does she throw handicapped kid and give all love to other kid ? Is it morally justified ? You will find the answer. So far, rich people have got access to education and the way educational expenditures are rising, its much difficult for poor families to support their future generations. Reservation could be a bad word to read and write, then use something else. The sole purpose is to give access education to all. Remember, being rich/farword is not = bright and being OBC/SC/ST not = dumb.

Don't be biased pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee.

No reservations at all..
by nilesh on May 22, 2006 11:47 AM  Permalink

I think there should not be any reservation. The admissions should be purely on the basis on merit. People who can not afford should be given cosessions on the fees or it can be made free of cost for them. Let us not bring the cast in between here.
