Aff all the news papersradio newsTV channnels and speeches about political leaders of all the parties. One thing is common. In the last 50 years no one cared to tell the general public that reservations for even SC and ST was initially for only 10 years in the constitution framed in 1950 and polititicians keep extending it every decade. The reservation were not meant for the persons who got the benefit of these reservations but it was meant to change the perception of whole community to which that individual belonged that they can also hold high positions which other higher castes were holding since one among them could achieve that through reservation.
One just need to read only first few lines of your article, the ill effects are very well known to every Indian. We have giant companies (especially Software) who has money and lobbying power. Can't you big companies teach politicians a lesson either hook or crook for all the bad politics. If organizations like CII, FICCI etc take this as the FINAL DISASTER and workout a game plan you can dictate the government. Regards, Sreenath (Another employee of a reputed Indian Software Company)
The very idea of introducing quota system into institutions like IITs and IIMs is disgusting. The politicians think about only their welfare. They can prosper only if they are in power. To stay in power they stoop to any level.
What the quota system so far has achieved? Is there any tangible proof to show that the system has helped backward people?
Dont we have atleast one politician with a spine to come forward to speak about this nonsense and to put an end to the quota raj.
The govt should open special IIMs and IITs to educate the OBCs and the SC/STs. The quota was supposed to be only for 10 years. But it is going to be forever as long as the politicians are on this earth. In the last 50 years no SC/ST or OBC politicaian has become poorer but the SC/ST or OBC general population continues to be poor.
After the quota people pass out from the IITs and IIMs etc, they should be given an amount of Rs. 2 crore each so that they would not have to work. Keep the money in SBI - which is a PSU and give them 2% interest more than the prevailing market rate. But please make sure none of the offspings of the quota people again come back to the govt for more help in terms of quota in educational institutions or jobs.
The year2005.PlaceTamilNadu. TimeCounselling into professional colleges was getting closer. There was a lot of confusion regarding YES or No to entrance exams, which added to the woes of every family who was going through 12th that year. The verdict-It was held. My neighbour, a Brahmin by caste (its sad but today, I am forced to mention it) had scored 99.2% in his 12th. Instead of rejoicing at his brilliant performance, his family had a look of sadness. The reason was that he stood 266th! in the state in the entrance test. This boy was frustrated he would not get admission into the top 5 colleges of the state. His mother was running from one college to another enquiring if he had any chance. A principal even derided her saying that she was being foolish to even dream of getting into his college on merit. I also happened to meet a smart girl. She had an ambition to do engineering. She had also decided on the college and branch. I asked this confident, hip girl what her marks were. She had scored 68% & was placed1026th rank in the entrance. I essayed my fears of her getting a seat wherein she looked me in the eye and told me that she had no such doubts as she was a BC. Is this justice? Shouldnt it be that the economically backward, whichever caste they may be benefit from reservation and the fate of others merit alone decides? Is reservation a way of punishing the upper castes for the so called sins of their forefathers?

i absolutely agree with your view.
Why would you say it is because of the sin of forefathers? What did they do wrong? They were very clear in those days as to who should do what?
Now, in the name of democracy and improving the life of backward people, the politicians are benefitted. The backward people remain backward.
The quota system haunts us in all the ways. Once the substandard student passes out on the merit of quota system, does it improve his ability to perform? It could be true in one or two cases. But if we look at a logical conclusion, they turn out to be substandard again. These are the people with whom we entrust our lives in all walks of life, be it a doctor, lawyer, engineer.
The solution lies in changing the rules. Is there any politician out there with a wit to do that
I feel congress and its allies are so desparate to hang to Power that they can go to any Length to divide the society,
They Divided our Country in 1947 to rule for 40 years & after that they are now dividing the country in the Name of Cast to rule for another 40.
Good Job done , But to my congress men still u will not able to rule Bihar and UP.
One more thing to dear Leaders like Mr V.P.singh and Mr Arjun Singh , We know what is your status in our country , u cannot win one elction and want to become Prime Minister.
Can Mr Arjun Singh and Mr V.P.Sing can say they have done anything for the Country .
Can Leaders of the North India say how many jobs they can create , how many will be employed , How r they going to improve the education system .
and if their is no out put from the existing system how , what are their plan ???
I tell u these leader will have no idea.
Rahul gandhi will open one hospital in Amethi , in the name of Indira Gandhi .
And Sonia gandhi will resign on a trevial Issue and put extra urden on the tax payers .
Hi. I read your article and it really disappointed me for two reasons. Firstly and most importantly, such an article was sneaked into Rediff under the guest column's section, so the website or the news agency is never in trouble. It's quite possible though that this can be an article from one of its own reporters. Secondly, your views or rather apparently biased views and hence shrouded with an utter lack of completeness about the knowledge of the Reservation Policy are egregiously disappointing and even more so as it is posted on the Web. By now, you would have sensed what I mean. I don't completely disagree with you but the percentage of agreement is nominal. When someone (you could well be a reporter with Rediff, who knows) gets a chance to write something which may get published and people can actually read it, it's always a good idea to write something which really makes sense and which shows you have done your research well and held the objectivity of the matter intact, which your article (or sleazy negative propaganda) overtly lacks. Just know that the degree to which the really oppressed benefit from reserv'n is far greater than that of the "injustice" to non-reserved guys.

Dear Someone Objective We do not understand what you are talking about- accusing Rediff of negative propoganda? Also, what is the basis of your claiming that the really backward get far more benefits compared to the injustice suffered by the non reserved? Can you show us some survey/report on the basis of which you have arrived on this conclusion. If I am not mistaken, perhaps you have also been able to enjoy the benefits of reservation, and you certainly do not appear like you are from the really oppressed sections.
It is a divided India. We are divided into states based on linguistic differences rather than administrative convenience. We are divided by religion, caste, etc.
Now we are reservation-eligible (RE) and reservation-non-eligible (RNE).

i fully agree with u jagdish.....i think all the enemy countries of India should firmly support the goverments new reservation policy...
Subject: Reservation. education and all national progress related problems can be solved by using Internet
Internet (including video conference) can be used as a major tool for education growth enabling India to achieve total education from low to highest level. Internet broadband must be allowed to reach everywhere in India including villages by removing all restrictions and taxation on all internet related equipment/technology/bandwidth so that it becomes affordable at Rs.100/- per month unlimited usage (just similar to cable TV prices). Internet will also help in providing full awareness ,education, employment, improve healthcare and, all-round progress in every sphere of life
This will bring India to highest level of progress in shortest time and even in first year substantial progress can be achieved as hard working efficient Indians will be able to show their worth to the rest of the world and improve national income to a highest level compared to any other country
Being available to all, it solves quota problem (if necessary, it should be provided free of cost to those who cannot afford and for which market forces may find suitable workable methods of self generating incomes & wherever necessary government may be asked for help in paramount national interest for public
