This issue seems politically driven. When we call ourselves a secular democratic nation, where we are equal irrespective of caste, creed or color, we start wondering which of these are actually true here! I am sure everyone would support a quota system based on economic status; we all know there are enough and more of those bright young minds in our country who do not get a chance to move ahead academically because of financial constraints. However, there are just as many or, I dare say, more economically 'backward' people in the upper castes in today's India. I thought we had abolished the caste system in India??
This is the time for this nation to grow up & be among the best. And to make this happen all of us (indians) should do our part. If we could kill this disease of caste system & religion. In our homes we should not teach our kids that u r hindu or sikh or muslim etc., rather to tell them u r indian & india is ur religion.. and we should stop making difference in girls & boys..there is no difference, if we aware now it will help our coutry to boost fast, otherwise it will happen too but than it will take more 50 to 100 years. so in all which can happen in next 5 to 10years, why wait for more 50 years.. we have bring changes in ourselves first, than commenting on someone else.
All opponents of such reservation are overlooking existing apparent but unwritten reservations. Donation seats which is financial quota, clannish quota which means only Rajasthanis(read marwaris)in accounts, purchase and stores departments of companies owned and managed by businessmen of Rajasthani origin. Political Anti brahmin spirit in Maharashtra's congress culture just because Godse was brahmin. I am a brahmin from maharashtra, well educated and so my son but can see all these quotas which all agitating students are also very well aware but do not want to oppose because it suits their interests. To sum it is like crowd in second class compartment of peak hour train. At every approaching station, passengers inside try to prevent incoming crowd and quarrel with them unitedly. As train proceeds further and next station approaches, all warriers and unitedly try to prevent next incoming crowd.
So let us unite and strive for pure merit based admissions and then not complain if meritorious say chinese students seek and successfully get major chunk of admissions. Merit Zindabad.
almost 60 years after independence.. and we still have quota's for the backward classes?! what exactly gives them the right for this? these so called backward classes are financially and socially much better off than the others nowadays. because of our great leaders who give quota without thinking about the rest of the population. 33% for women.. 50% for backward classes.. 5% odd for the minorities. where does this leave us? when everyone goes on tomtoming about equality then why not make them work as hard as us for securing seats? a guy with 90percentile in CAT gets all six IIM calls just because he's a BC. and an open category student even after securing 96perc is no where. whats his fault??
i fully agree with the author. There should ne no reservations anywhere. If somebody if economically backward, only then he/she should be fully supported by providing only financial assitance. All admissions & jobs shall be purely on merit.
the so called reservation in eduction institutions will only help creamy layer of ST/SC , and not the others for whom the reservation is aimed at, for examples the benefit will be taken only by the kins of all the beurocarats and technocrats and politicians for that matter but not the kids of really deprived people hence this reservation does not reach to the desrving people and of no use to me, instead government must concentrate on opening up more institutions, schools and colleges and make education free of chanrges if it realy wants do uplift the deprived section
Reservations have so far proved to be curse to our system. How much you can further divide our society . There is no end to it. The real deserving people have been deprived of this facility.
In Rajasthan , people of Meena caste though are otherwise well to do have come in maximum numbers in IAS because of reservation policy. There are many such examples which shows that a very small segment of the society have been benefitted. There will never be an end to it.
Reservation has only divided the society further and proved bane to the system. Now after 59 years of independance . Let the society evolve its own system to make people of free India to grow in their own way .
