a good article which must be read by everyone who is involved in this sector and they must execute the strategy as soon ,because as the article indicates that its less expensive as compared to others.so,i think that its in the hand of politicians and some corporate bodies.
There are several models that have been used in the US to show that the cost of using fertilizer to grow plants and then spending more money to convert them into fuels is more than the cost of using oil. But India, with 1.3 billion people produces a huge amount of human waste which could be used to produce bio-gas which would be a superb source of energy. Small attemp0ts were made in the 70s and 80s to use gobar gas in dairy farms but absolutely no attempt has been made to process human waste for fuel gas and also fertilizer. This is a continuous source of energy as long as humans eat and produce waste and instead of letting it into the sea where it causes harm, it could be successfully used to produce energy that India desperately needs.
But I agree fully with the previous poster. Is the political will to do this strong enough?
India must reach the goal of energy self-sufficiency in the next 15 years or so as spelled out by Pres. Abdul Kalam.
Currently, Indian coal meets close to 70 per cent of India\'s energy needs; Oil supplies about another 30 per cent of the country\'s energy. India imports more than 60 per cent of its annual oil needs, or slightly more than 1.4 million barrels of oil per day. At current rates of economic growth this figure is likely to rise to as much as 5 million barrels per day by the year 2020.
Unless India obtains or develops alternative sources of energy, in 15 years it will have to import close to 90 per cent of its petroleum needs of 5 million barrels per day at today\'s cost of $70/bbl $1277 Billion.
By year 2020 India needs to reach self sufficiency imports by substituting them with biodiesel and straight vegetable oil (SVO), wind, solar and nuclear energy.
The wind, solar and nuclear also reduce greenhouse gases.
The oil pipeline thru\' Pakistan would be a disaster when Pakistan starts its 4th war with India.

This is a very good article.Hope India Govt also likes this.India has to gain more financially by adopting the SVO scenario. It will also help farmers to earn more.China has already adopted this scenario. At least if we cannot think in that way we can follow from China.
