Using human waste is another option
by MK on Sep 03, 2005 08:52 PM

There are several models that have been used in the US to show that the cost of using fertilizer to grow plants and then spending more money to convert them into fuels is more than the cost of using oil. But India, with 1.3 billion people produces a huge amount of human waste which could be used to produce bio-gas which would be a superb source of energy. Small attemp0ts were made in the 70s and 80s to use gobar gas in dairy farms but absolutely no attempt has been made to process human waste for fuel gas and also fertilizer. This is a continuous source of energy as long as humans eat and produce waste and instead of letting it into the sea where it causes harm, it could be successfully used to produce energy that India desperately needs.

But I agree fully with the previous poster. Is the political will to do this strong enough?
