Funny place to work
by Sandeep on Apr 02, 2009 04:50 AM  Permalink

Poor managerial skills of managers in all BPO's. Specially in HCL BPO is killing all their employees. 70% of all the employess are suffering from health issues and even in ba health people expect you to come to office, people are aware there are so many things which happens verbally in an organisation which doesn't have any accountability. BPo sucks. I am never gonna join it again. see BPO people what kind of results u r getting because of your reluctant managerial commitments.

Are Indian BPOs Slave ships
by varun on Nov 03, 2005 11:10 AM  Permalink

I cant comment on the slave ship aspect of the job, since I myself have never experienced it. But one thing is for sure. These centres are defienitely killing the creativity and intellectual insitinct of our youth. One of my cousins hasnt even finished high school and has been offered a job in one of these call centres. Now if you start giving decent salaries to kids, who would want to study? They of course dont realize that completing their eduation is far more important than earning a ridiculously fat pocket money. What if suddenly the BPO industry goes bust, as it happened with software for a while. What will these kids, without even a high school degree, do with 'expertise in making phone calls'?

Hail Giri's Institute of Management!
by BpoHater on Oct 31, 2005 05:18 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Karnik & Nasscom,

I have been working for over 1 1/2 years in a call center. Let me let you know why Giri's call call centers a prison camp.

1. We work 12 hrs a day most of the times.
2. We take 120 calls a day, we have been asked to take 75 calls a day by hook or by crook.
3. We get the most pathetic food in our cafeteria. You eat it & u let us know.
4. How would like to have a half n hr break and run a block to the next building after coming 4 floors down and then going 3 floors up to have dinner. All in half n hr. where reaching the cafeteria takes 10 mins & then waiting for food in the line takes another 10 mins and then eat it in 5 mins and run...
5. How would u like to work under tremendous pressure all the time. You are recruited as customer service & then asked to do sales all the time.
6. What happens when u take up the issues with the topmost of topmost management ppl & all u get is promises.
7. How about having a break everyday after 4-5 hrs sometimes even 6 hrs.
8. You get paid peanuts to work that u do, & the profits that u earn for the company runs in crores.

slaves - YES- Indians exploited by greedy Indians
by Arun on Oct 28, 2005 08:28 PM  Permalink

I could see both IT and BPO industry exploits their employees. In this case, it is not British, like 50 years back, it is greedy (mostly high caste/class) indians who exploit vulnerable fellow Indians. Let me ask one question: What is the profit margin of this industry? Around 45%. How much is the salary component? 20-25%? What products are they manufacturing and selling and what is the capital investment? It is all our 8 hour day and nothing else that got billed to Global clients and we are paid peanut salary of 2 hour money that we make. What is this called? 100% Pure EXPLOITATION. No other big alternatives at the moment, and hence they are surviving. Unless, they treat employees as partners, they are going to fail miserably - all the top Indian IT and BPO veterans, foreign companies seem better option.

are indian BPOs slave ships
by ak on Oct 28, 2005 05:20 PM  Permalink

yes indeed they r slave ships.. i m working in one of the top BPO in india whose owner is india's richest person... The agents has to work 10:30 hours of shift and in dell process they have to work even more which is atleast 13 to 14 hrs a day in order to meet there targets and after finishing the shift the agents are told to stay for team huddle atleast for one more hour.. cab picks up 2 hrs before and it takes atleast 30 mins to 1 :30 hr to reach home again so if we add the total time in office it is round about 15 or 16 hrs.. it is really frustrating working in BPOs .. but since we dont have better option we r here. if BPOs wont change there working conditions especially working hours (hich should be 6 to7 hrs at the most)they wont get talent in the coming two or three years.
