Kerala on decline
by Dr.Thomas Thankachan on Sep 11, 2005 05:45 PM  Permalink

I think Aditi is a real life example of incredible ignorance. I feel the person is totally biased against the state in the first place and secondly against the chief minister. The heading of the article is the decline of the state and giving a few examples of flops in the begining, it seems the rest of the article is speaking of the internal politics of a single party. Speaking of Aditi's heros, Karunakaran and Muruleedharan, they were the political parasites which were draining the states economy and are seen as corrupt to the core. Aditi has identified Karunakaran and Muruleedharan as the heros of Hindus which is totally baseless. I think Aditi is totally ignorant of Kerala politics and its under currents. Religion is not playing an active role in Kerala unlike its counterparts elsewhere in the country. Chandy, the chief minister is one of the few ministers who was capable of throughing out a long time good-for-nothing politician and his son, whom the Congress High Command even feared. Though, I basically does not belong to any of the parties in Kerala, as a neutral political observer, I feel Chandy is much better than many of his predecessors.

Dogs own Country

Hey, what are you trying to establish? Mr. Karunakaran a saint and Mr. Oomen Chandy only is responsible for all the pathetic situation of Kerala? Mr. Karunakaran is tried to defeat the official candidate in Ernakulam and publically challenges for action and claimed that he is the High Command in Kerala. Any self respecting party can allow this? The present CM deserves congrats for the strong decison. Look at the oppositions stands on Smart City project. Public is in favour of this project but the LDF is trying to crush the aspirations of the youth. Look at the case of John Hopkings Universit's proposal to set up a Center in Munnar few years ago. They 'found' FIB agents there. Now BJP sees 'Terrorists' in Smart City projects. Really good, they are very much 'concerned' about the security of this state! Look at this article, where was the news in this web site when DIC announcing this project? I think some media with vested interest were suppressed this good news and when there was news of dely give more coverage. Kerala is not in decay, but the 'political dogs', who barks when there is a news of developments.

Kerala: State of decline
by Ajithprasad. p on Jun 07, 2005 11:23 AM  Permalink

What comes through the reoprt is your bias. If one had followed Kerala's electoral politics for the last 20 years it would become apparent that it would be a herculian task for Mr. Chandy to come back in power after the forthcoming election. He knows it, KPCC knows it and LDF knows it. Karunakaran knows it even better. Why do you think all these tamashas when the election is just around the corner? One should actually congradulate the Congress leadership for its bold disciplinary action. Chandy's govt. is doomed in the next election with or without Karunakaran. But the benificiarry will be the BJP, who as it had done in the recent byelections along with the Karunakaran's party will ensure the congress defeat and ensure at least a few seats of their own in the next election. BJP has already started talking about opening their account in the comming election. And in the long run that is going to adversily effect the Congress's electral fortunes for the years to come.
with regards
Ajithprasad

Kerala
by A on Jun 07, 2005 11:15 AM  Permalink

The article touches just the surface. The fact is that that the state is worse than Bihar or Jharkhand. Only difference being that that what would be unreasonable or illegal in Bihar & elsewhere has the legal sanction in Kerala. How many people know the custom of "ATTIMARI"? It means that if your luggage/goods are transported by a powered vehicle, the neighborhood roudies will have to be paid "loading/unloading porter charges" (ranging from 1000+) as decided by them, even if you unload the goods yourself?
In some places, these charges are fixed by the Labour Dept.and have to be paid to the roudies even if you are unloading the vehicle yourself!
Then take the recent case where a couple was fined Rs.2000/- by temple authorities because their newborn baby wet himself inside the temple!
Anyone who says Bihar & other states are lawless should be sent to Kerala!

karunakaran is a secularist congress politician not a hindu politician!
by sajith marakar on Jun 07, 2005 10:10 AM  Permalink

hi Aditi!

your article is a good over view on kerala politics . But you are wrong here "The Hindus may have deserted the Congress after K Karunakaran's exit".Karunakaran is not known as a Hindu Leader, He is a secularist congress politician. We have to differentiate secularist and extremists without confusion. see the recent comment of Mr.Adavani about Mr.Jinha in KARACHI.

CRAP!
by sunil on Jun 07, 2005 09:26 AM  Permalink

'Antony resigned and Chandy became CM. He tried to manage the leaky Congress boat (made leakier by Karunakaran who went on taking swipes at Chandy) until Karunakaran formed the so-called "I" group and parted ways. Chandy's ambition was at last realised.'

asinine comments.'I' group was not formed recently,it was formed along with the Indian national congress!dont bother to publish such 'profound ' articles by writers with superficial idea of kerala politics.

congress is much the better for the exit of that delinquent karunakaran and his son.people realise that umman chandy is any day a better alterative to that former tailor achuthanadan!

Intelligent people
by Ary on Jun 06, 2005 11:13 PM  Permalink

Hi:
Kerala, like Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan is full of intelligent people who do not allow the same set of people rule more than one term. It is the term of communists now and then the Congress will come back. No point blaming Chandy for that as no modern day government can satisfy the aspirations of all sections of the society (except of course the laloos, mayawatis and CPM in bengal)and in such circumstances, the exit of Karunakaran is a boon in disguise to Congress.
