With big craters on the road, no lights and no one to fill them, its a nice recipe for accidents and thats what happens in one of bangalores busy road's(if it can be called one). This is none other but Bannerghatta road. It was proposed that the road would complete with national highway standards by end of february, but there are no signs of even begining the work there. Whatever stretch has been built, has been dugged up. It takes about 30 mins to cross a strech of 2 kms. This is what bangalore is going through. This is no joke but reality. I wish someday I a resident of this place will travel on a ROAD.
Bangalore is groaning with pain. No doubt it has been a great story of success set up by IT industry. But the same is responsible for its pathetic condition also. Companies like Wipro, Infosys kept expanding in Bangalore without giving a thought to the city infrastructure. Every month they keep coming with another building , boasting of their number of employees. Even the projects mentioned in the list are just for going to offices. But what happens to the civic facilities. There is no plan by govt to develop residential area. The appartments are coming up with frantic pace in each and every "gali-Muhalla", with a bare minimum road for a car to go. There is no planning from builders (why would they ?) nor govt for proper commutation. There is hardly any place for kids to play. These big companies which showed the path to Bangalore , should take up more responsibility and should start looking beyond Bangalore , to give a break to Bangalore to re-vitalize the energies. They hardly show any presence in Northern part of India. Why cant they see potential centers at Jaipur, Bhopal, Dehradoon, Gurgaon, Ahemadabad, Lucknow. They are as well placed as BLR.
Bangalore has the worst roads i have ever seen. The Government is not at all concerned in improving the road condition. The place where i live (Banerghatta), the Govt. has promised to asphalt the road immediately when the residents of the locality, students of IIM and owners of shops went on a strike. But nothing happened of that sort and what happened is erect hoardings to make money out of it. They are unable to asphalt a 4KM stretch road, then we can imagine laying of 9KM flyover. That will never see light of the day.
We are really vexed up staying in Bangalore and want to shift to places like Hyderabad or Chennai.
That was indeed good to know about the city development, but howver i would appreciate if these projects are co-ordinated in a right manner. For instance the construction of a flyover ,let all the depts such as BCC,BSNL,BWSSB etc co-ordinate accordingly and make sure every arrangement is done from the first pahse so that it doesnot cause hindrance both on and also below the flyover. The construction of metro railway is a welcome move, but again it has come after a delay,i just pity the bangaloreans, the amount of inconvenience during construction taking into consideration of traffic density, congestion of roads etc.Though this project was initiated in 1997,the govt is to be blamed for it,God save the hapless bangaloreans and also the greenery(mother nature)
I completely agree with the author about the state of B'lore and most of it can be attributed to this sudden boom of IT in B'lore. Unless, individuals start contributing to B'lore development, the current state cannot be changed (infact it is going to worsened). Well, I'm one of those person who has left B'lore because of all this reason. I moved to B'lore around 7 years back and used to feel proud of being part of that city. This is not the feeling any more and I finally decided to leave B'lore. Other than roads, B'lore govt offices, police etc also needs to be improved.
Don't know how much these articles and blogs help us on ground zero...but a thought is worthy of sharing...!!! Bangalore I believe was never ready for the wind change that IT brought about...it was always destined and planned to be a retired, pensioners retreat...!!! The grand projects government is talking about...wil soon fall flat on the face...cuz if you care to minutely examine the road conditions here....bangalore is not far behind Bombay in the quality (or the lack of it) of roads...!!! Some wise guy would contradict that Bombay is much worse when it comes to traffic plights...but the heart of the matter is that Bangalore traffic administration has to wake up...and put some fundamentals in place..if they have any hopes of saving the city from the dogs... 1. An effective public transport system must be the first priority on cards. In Mumbai...57% of al commuters rely on the BEST buses and the omnipresent "local" trains. A public transport system that can share part of the load would do Bangalore a whole lot of good. I'm waiting to see light at the end of Bangalore Metro tunnel. 2. Rediff does not allow me to use more characters. So more to come in the next message.
You can't just blame the present Chief minister for the bad roads(infrastructure) in Bangalore. He has just inherited what Mr.Krishna has left. Ex Chief minsiter Mr. Krishna was typical page 3 person, making all the correct statments. He always manipulated the media especially the english speaking ones. But what you see now is all b'coz of his non developmental activities during his tenure. And present CM is indifferent to the needs of people. He is busy in safe gaurding his CM seat and keep people like Devegouda(shame to our state) happy.
