I read the article on nurturing talent. It is truly insightful. At times children happen to take a risk in life in the form of silly mistakes for which our system (including BITS)gives a capital punishment in the form of semester cancellation which probably is pulling their legs into pit deeper not understanding the psychology behind, which may at times be unintentional, without harming anybody, without any gains. Not realizing the repurcation which might lead these youth into bigger mistakes harmful to society. Instead as mentioned by you if you nurture young talented mind in a better way in your esteemed institute by counselling them try and give them a second chance if they realize their mistake and are true to themselves and have guts to accept a little mistake they happen to do don't you think they should be given a chance with a warning rather than cancelling their term (of young talented minds with good CGPA and good past records). Are we not pulling their talent leading them to depression or more negativity. Sir I am a teacher myself and would life to think over it and make change in certain rules of Your educational institute BITS so that we don't lead these children to commit severe mistakes like suicides or bigger mistakes in life. so that we create better human beings helpful to mankind and society at large.
Read the Article. Nice1 - good thought. may god bless to implement the same in our group also (BKB Group). Here young bloods are not allowed to nurture their talent untill it gets cold.. and once it is cold no way to get hot again. In my view "Retain the Talent" should be one theme to be adopted by corporate houses.
As a person who has close friends as employees of this group companies and having worked myself in similar companies, these are just Public Relations talk when the reality is entirely different. Pitiable conditions under which people work in some of the group companies in remote places will make such statements and tall talks hollow. There is scant respect for human rights and this is more prevalent where the employees colonies are next to their units. Even employees personal life and families are under the control of the company. All these happen in the name and game of same family, one family and so on. They all stand before their God in the morning and start their torture. Plain bloodsuckers in human form.
All the family companies from this part of India are exactly the same and no wonder they are dwindling with more reliance on brain power of the individuals and now start singing different tunes.
This article is a "classic". It articulates the problem very well and gives an insight into what "Managerial Talent" really means. I am sure Mr.Birla is living these issues on a day to day basis and that is why the aritcle strikes a chord. A "Must Read" for any one wanting to make an impression in corporate world.
All the business tycoons speak of nurturing talent in India. They do very little about it.Copmuters could have made easily available to students in rural & urban areas if couple of big shots hav taken interest. Goa has set a ideal plan to provide free pc's to every science student. We don't want free but every college guy should hav pc.They can pay in installments. Still the price of pc's is out of reach of many aspiring students.Callcenter culture is also destroying our education system with more students leaving study & doing this job which may create short of qualified person over the year.

Thanking you. Sincerely yours Neeraj kumar
Excellent article. Talent identification and nurturing is truly a talent in itself, failure to do this is the only reason why we have taken this long to tell the world we are great. This mind set will take time to change further and only then will we be truly a country like the USA or better. The reason Indians did well on foreign shores is the environment and encouragement nothing else.
A well presented perspective on talent by an extremely talented and successful C/E/O cum businessman. It is the likes of Mr Birla who keep the dreams of young Indians alive.
What Kumarmagalam Birla preaches, doesn't practice or is not implemented. Brings in people from Europe to bring in professionalism but refuses to leave the marwari culture. The cramped workplace and measely compensation remains the same for the 85% ie upto the middle management. Politics and chamchagari to immediate boss is the key to success. The result is profesionals leaving the company especially upto middle management. Young people join the company with big hopes but leave in frustration as marwaris are given preference at a later stage. This practice continues from the First Generation of Birlas. The continued success of the Group is due to their inherent nature of doing business and cost control through their purta system (a revised mix from the standard costing concept). Also, from the increased employee productivity through late sitting.
Sorry, anyone but not you sir on employee nuturing etc
