Bad english.
by Ashwini on Apr 21, 2005 12:49 AM  Permalink

The article though interesting requires fine tuning. Terrible headline (syntax), and needs proofing of words.
I am surprised to see such an artice on Rediff.
Also as Ravindra pointed out why is leadership linked to MBA? Seems like an obvious bias unoticed by the editorial.

MBAs should be banned
by Daniel on Apr 21, 2005 12:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All MBA programs in existence have to be comprehensively changed. In its present form, i think they serve no purpose whatsoever.

The CEOs are probably the most stuck-up, snobbish, sadistic and useless people around. The CEOs of most companies are just interested in their own monetary gains, especially while quitting or being ousted from their jobs (in the form of severance pay).

Most CEOs have absolutely no clue as to what is going on in their company. Although this seems exaggerated, this is the hard truth.

An MBA just increases the snob value of a person and makes him/her apparently more "superior".

Ironically, an overwhelming majority of recruiters of these MBAs dont have one themselves, many of them them not even a basic degree.

At the end of it all, the CEOs, the MBAs and the likes turn out to be the most miserable people. They should ask themselves if it was all worth it.

Chew on that you mindless folk, in your quest for the greatest disaster in the rat race.

Why IIMs have not produced enough entrepreneurs?
by Pankaj on Apr 20, 2005 07:07 PM  Permalink

It's amazing that IIMs or other management institutes in India have not produced enough entrepreneurs. This is unlike IITs. This is a question directly related to this article. This clearly indicates that IIMs are not producing leaders, but followers. Afcourse, managers and entrepreneurs are different. But, there lies a fault in management teaching in India, which curbs free thinking, ability to take risks, and encourages one to fit in the existing system, rather than creating your own path.

Why link leadership with MBA at all
by B.H.Ravindra on Apr 20, 2005 05:49 PM  Permalink

A good article indeed. But why link leadership with MBA? Infact, most of the good entrepreneurs are not MBAs. Eg. Narayana Murthy, Bill Gates, Azim Premji.... I feel that leadership has nothing little to do with formal tranining such as MBAs. In fact some of the top school MBAs are so arrogant and they think they know all, they are least qualifed for becoming a good leader.

Regards,
Ravindra

Bad Proofing
by N. Ravi Shankar on Apr 20, 2005 05:34 PM  Permalink

The article needs proof-reading. Glitches in English / Grammar can spoil the fun, even if the article is good. Looks like someone did this in a hurry!

CEO Story goes......
by Sabyasachi Mahapatra on Apr 20, 2005 04:15 PM  Permalink

The B-school should teach the students ready to accept the lowest job in organization, along with the heighest Job.Once a person understand the bottom, he can easily understand the middle and top, though it takes time, but life is always to move on.

why not everyone can be a CEO?
by B.Venkateswaran on Apr 20, 2005 03:55 PM  Permalink

Excellent piece of an article.valid points-make sense indeed!
But the present day CEOs often lack focus.. which keeps on changing from time to time! Instead they get stuck with a few from which they started!
They lack empathy..bureaucratic many times! dont practise what they learn in B-school on listening peers and subordinates! They think invariably that they are always right!

Why not everyone can be a CEO
by nitiraj verma on Apr 20, 2005 03:04 PM  Permalink

it is well said through the article that it is impossible to teach each and every thing in just two year during B-School course.
but as far as my opinion is concerned i am a little bit disagree with the article. the prime motto of evry business house is to increase profit and wealth maximisation to the share holder as well. Why not everyone can be a CEO,according to me is the improper execution of knowledge what we learn during the course. if we can execute those theory in the real corporate, cosidering all the effecting criterion which can be effected by the implication, then i am sure each and every MBA student is able to be CEO.more or less every B-school try to cover every thing which can help to their studentin th future. in the article it is mention that MBA programmes does not equip their students adequately in values and behaviour areas but i am sure that B schools do that, but the problem is with the implementation of those learning. if we take example from corporate itself we will find maximum success CEO are MBA but few of them are not MBA but they are success, they have not learnt any MBA theory but they implement their experience which is more valuable than our MBA.

Leaders
by Amit on Apr 20, 2005 02:33 PM  Permalink

I agree with most of the things in the column. Infact I am planning to become a businessman some day. Hopefully sometime soon. I am working as a software pro now. And the MBA degrees can help but there are somethings which are just in you. I dont say the degree doesnt help. Infact i wanna do some bussiness course or read books that will help me. I am not intrestedin degree coz i dont have time for that and also for having your own company no 1 needs a degree rite. Anyways good advices are always welcome. I will be very thankful if any1 takes the trouble for doing that.
