In my company, we have a process called Career Management, where a senior manager is made responsible to guide a junior employee in his career. I had my reporting manager as my Career manager. He set me certain objectives to be accomplished in 3 months. I attained 80% of them. (mind you, 50% of the objectives were outside of my immediate tasks, meaning, I had to take out time from my daily tasks and accomplish them). After 3 months I had a performance review, (salary - hike was not the objective of this review) and the manager was really happy about my performance. He rated me 'Exceeds Expectations'. New goals were set for me for the next 3 months, and again I achieved 80% of them. Again my manager expressed his happiness over my performance, and rated me 'Exceeds Expectations'. But when the salary-hike too place, I was given a hike which was less than what is awarded to an employee who has been rated 'Meets Expectations'. I asked for so low hike, and the answer I got was that 'Company cannot afford that much'. But later I came to know that some of the employees, who had been working under other managers, have got better hike, even though they were rated 'Meets Expectations'.

Systems vary company 2 company and also the situation of the co. Last yr(2007-08) my co gave me a CTC hike of 10% (on 3.60L CTC in 06-07) even w/out an appraisal. This yr too, I am expecting on the same lines, though my performance have been praised by one and all. PA is being done but the co's profit decreased fm last yr.
This co. is employee blood sucker...........now since their most of the staff had ran away they are giving some hikes....... they pay peanuts to their employees.......i left recently......

Looks like you failed to get a job in an IT company and hence crying "Sour Grapes" like the fox which could not reach the grapes.
Dear SethiSeravanan, which industry do you belong to? Or do you work at all? Or spending Rs.10 in a dingy CyberCafe (obviously accessing "you know what") and floating your resumes in the market?
My Company is still not planned appraisal for this year. I dont know whether they dont want to give us or anything else? Whatever the thing As i m completed my MBA i m planning to move further coz of high package!
The so called indian IT companies are not IT companies but labour pool companies ... and they are least bothered about you, all they want is money money money.
So stop looking for jobs and appraisals ... start some thing yourself. Form a team and work on your dreams.
