Leave your present co and join the other one with higher package. Consider your age too. If u r young, take the plunge.
seldom a sincere appraisal happens in even established organisations - and even if for the samke of records and GMS if they follow appraisal practice, then the manager/boss concerned takes this opportunity to pin point the rare failures of the year by the manager concerned and totally ignores the major achievements and contributions to the organisation. The appraisal practice is also very often taken advantage for settling scores of internal politics and vengence. In fact, the procedure in appraisal is in four phases in a year and not an yearly one, where you set certain goals for the year along with its target dates. every quarter the goal is reviewed to know its progress and problems so that other divisions/departments which has a bearing on the said goal also could be appraised and a teamwork is put in to place to achieve the same. Sometimes, some of the goals are cancelled midway due to management decisions which also has a bearing in the said employees final appraisal. In any case, appraisals do not have a direct bearing in arriving at the percentage of increment or other benefits. contd..

contd... In a well organized company which sincerely cares for its management and quality by practicing good management theories, would look at the appraisals towards achieving the company's targets and goals by clearly networking with other divisions and departments the connected activities. This way, every quarter they would analysis and review the progress of such goals and difficulties faced by certain departments/managers to address the same better and take appropriate decisions and approvals. This way, they will be able to monitor the performance and quality of each manger and connected departments so as to ensure the company works as a single unit in achieving the final goals rather than encouraging politics between the divisions and giving no room for any lame excuses for not achieving the targets/goals. In many such organization the increments/promotions etc. are arrived at legitimately and sincerely to the deserving employees

The appraised form shud b shown 2 the employee and his/her concurrence taken on the grade. Negotiating on employer's/boss' remarks can b helpful fetching a better marking.
EXPLORERS WORK DAY AND NIGHT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE KNOWLEDGE IN ANY AREA OF EXPERTISE NEEDED MOST DURING TRANSFORMATIONS OF INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS SINCE 1991 TILL DATE WITH INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITIONS WITH NO PAYMENTS DONE BY GOVT OF INDIA OR A MAGAZINE OR ANY OTHER NATION GETTING BENEFITED BY THE EXPLORATIONS
i work in one of software company in chennai, its totally very bad proceess on appraisal with all employees.due to this lot of people are suffering and trying to shift from existing to new.
Before we get into the sad part of discussing appraisals, There are a few questions that require answers. How would you quantify human intelligence? How are you expected to justify your performance in IT where you dont have anything as a Standard and all you find in this industry is the everychaning word Change?
To me the only industry which takes total advantage and squeezes their life out of every reasonable middle class knowledagable person is IT industry. Today we are talking about appraisals which had some relevance in the past with 30 to 70% percent hikes happening across different sections. But now there are industry bench marks and all IT majors have tied hands with each other. Result is a planned ball games and the common man in India will never realize the same.
Appraisals in all of Indias Top IT Companies is fraduluent and cheating people. Indian IT companies do not grow beyond a point due to their Indian school of thought thinking, converting dollars to rupees everytime they have to pay an associate.
Appraisal in India is all drama and crap of the highest order.I hate this system.

I work in a private Bank and the situation is same here too (against my earlier wishful thinking that this could never happen at professional Banking industry !!). Afterall the private guys deeds and acts behave like PRIVATE and the team sitting in their cool chambers enjoy all the cream dictating the terms. We normally forget that basically there's no difference between the coolie and the so called blue collared employee in a multi billion company (barring the dress code please). To quote Rich Dad 'Who are we making richer? by working hard.. day in day out.. long hours.. your employer and your boss.
Year on year promises remain tall and fat, the acts consistently miniscule -reason ?? the rats population is higher than Lion's !! so Lion's share should go to the top and the leftover to ? not rats sir, the entire populae of remaining animals... !!. As long as our fear and our own greed continues every 'successful organisation' behaves in synchronisation. The drama continues..

Yes Nischal, I totally agree with your point of you. Appraisal system in India and Indian companies are nothing than a piece of scrap.

The honeymoon period of IT industry is, sadly, over. That phenomenon will now happen 2 other sunrise industries. That will again last for a few yrs and the cycle will thus continue. As for measuring human intelligence, that is not necessary in the context of industry, as the intelligence value is shown and is measureable in the output and quality of work. There are ways and means in the appraisal systems worldover to quantify intelligence.
I work in financial software in london. This year when my salary review came in it was pretty low, just above RPI inflation rate at 6%. Next week I went for 2 interviews and surprisingly got both. When I informed my boss about the same, my salary got reviewed and was promoted to the next level. well to cut a long story short my salary ended up at %uFFFD 74K p.a. basic car perks. just booked in a BMW 320d getting it delivered jun 1st week :-)

This is a classic example of the age-old process of squeezing the employer-organisation. The employee(definitely a deserving one) gets a dissatisfactory appraisal, dangles an offer from a competitor-co, gets either a promotion or a big hike or both. Genuine performers r definitely rewarded by the employers, coaxing or not.
