Appraisal - Uprise of the mass
by sridude on May 22, 2008 01:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This year has been the year of inflation framed by Market Analysts. Oil prices are soaring high and affecting every aspect of life and the only driving force to curb that additional expense is the Appraisal percentage income on the salary to sustain and be at par with last year%u2019s budget if not stoop down. With the current Industry down trend, unfortunately the percentage also took a hit in companies-All sectors. People who gave their 150% hoping for best fitment was shown the door to meet expectations as the cap for above expectations was limited and could not fit all. Where does it leave the employee's hard work, effort and great a lot of time that they spent away from family and loved ones to be rewarded, yes! We have one box of peanuts and some left over pizzas so help yourself. Be happy, others only got a box of peanuts and you need to be tight-lipped about the left over pizza. I did get my pizza but that ain%u2019t enough to fill the bills-as a matter of fact, this year I am going low on savings compared to last year. An years worth of effort is not enough to sustain savings so what does the next appraisal stands to offer
repercussion:
1) My morale is down and therez no motivating factor
2) I don%u2019t want to give in even 100% as the difference in slab is just 2% more so why slog it out.
3) I wanna jump job for a hike coz inflation is making a hole in his pocket and I can%u2019t afford a luxurious life style.
Seriously considering delivering papers for additional income now.

app
by sanjay kulshrestha on May 22, 2008 01:23 PM  Permalink

THERE IS NO MEAN OF APPRAISAL , ITS A HIGHLY DEMOTIVATION EXERCISE FOR ORGANISATION, THERE EFFECT OF APPRAISAL ON THE PERFORMNCE OR GAIN / LOSS IN SALERY IS BELOW 20 % ON EMPLOYEES .
IF YOU GET APPRICIATION THROUGH APP.YOUR EXPECTATION WILL BE HIGH AND NO ONE CAN ACHIEVE YOU EXPECTATION AND OUT COME WILL BE DEMOTIVATION
IF YOU GET BELOW AVG . THERE IS ALSO DEMOTIVATION .
WHY WE PEOPLE LIKE TO COMPARE OUR VALUABLE WORK FORCE . EACH OF THE INDIVIDUAL OF THE ORGANISATION ARE IMPORTANT THATS WHY THEY ARE WORKING WITH YOU .
THE PERFORMANCE OF EMPLOYEES CAN NOT BE CONSISTENT ITS ALWAYS VERY MAN TO MAN , ITS UP TO US HOW CAN BE OPTIMISE OUR PERFORMANCE WITH PROPER JOB ALLOCATION .
APPRAISAL IS ONLY SYSTEM BY WHICH WE ARE GOING TO FORM GROUPS .
APPRAISAL IS ONLY SYSTEM BY WHICH HRD PERSONS FEEL SUPREME POWER EVEN THEY DOES'T KNOW ANY THING ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF EMPLOYEES .
APPRAISAL CAN BE A TOOL TO TAKE ACTION AGAIST THE EMPLOYEES OR CREATE PRSSURE ON EMPLOYEES

Can anyone please help me here....
by cool bloke on May 22, 2008 01:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am a Computer Science graduate with distinction from a reputed college in Mumbai University. I have been working in Tata Consultancy Services since past one year. When I had joined the company, I was quite certain of getting a development project as my programming and analytical skills are quite good. But due to some unforeseen circumstances I was forced to take up a 24x7 support project. I was told my Project Manager that the project entails development but after getting into the project I realized that it doesn't. Besides some basic Unix Commands which anybody can mug up, my project hardly involves any technology to boast of. Only thing we are supposed to do is to monitor email queries and work on a predefined set of rules to resolve them. It hardly offers me any scope to demonstrate my skills. On top of everything the rigor of working in rotating shift is taking toll on my health too. I spoke to my PM about not wanting to work in the project any more but to no avail. He is not ready to release me from the project.

I have made up my mind to leave this company by the end of next month once my appraisal is over (I will have to break the 2 yr bond). I have not yet applied to any other company. Do you think I have a chance of landing up a better job in another company with just 1 year of experience. I wish to project myself as having worked in development project to my prospective employer. I have obtained certifications in Java and Oracle and have a sound technical knowledg

At the outset, i would like to inform you that in any company like this will happen. You need to talk to your immediate boss, if he does not listen take this matter with superior, but do not think you will get a better if you change your job just for the sake of this project. You need to show your skill in other areas where you can fit in and grab that type of project . if you do not talk nothing will happen. If your employer feels that your service is important they will not let you down. Work in the same company gain knowledge use your skill everything will be solved.

cool bloke, now that you have decided to quit, make sure you dont land up in the same situation in another company. check out smaller companies, which are niche players in one industry. this will give you an opportunity to develop your technical and domain skills, and it will help you in the long run. A person who can give technical guidance, understanding the client's domain can grow to be a consultant. so, pick an industry that interests you, and look for small companies that do exclusive work. i know of a few companies like that.. you should try googling on it! best of luck!

good advise... cool bloke..that's why people who have started their career from biggy companies, could not change for over a long period....i know many guys who are working for more than 8-10 years and they are not getting good salaries in comparison of less experience resources from smaller companies

No Appraisal ...........
by Sarabjeet Singh on May 22, 2008 01:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Our company is making fool of all, from January the appraisal is due, in march they introduced a online format of KRA and to be followed by personnel interview by HRA Head, which is still pending. All staff is in hope to get the appraisal with arrears from January. But they (Employer) are waiting for project completion and after that Bye Bye TATA to all staff, so no need of appraisal.

appraisal/increment BY M.P.S
by MANINDER SETHI on May 22, 2008 12:59 PM  Permalink

In most companies Appraisals are just a way of justifying what the Managements have already pre-decided for their staff.

Appraisals are a sheer waste of time. The increment you get is based on how much buttering you do to your boss.I know guys who hardly work but only butter and got fantastic increments

One should not work for any company for more than 3-4 years otherwise the company would feel , you have no options.

The appraisal always linked to the financial gains and losses of the company at the end of financial year. If there is a profit then there is always right approach to the appraisal. When there is loss, the company gives mere increase to all even if the somebody gives is 100% commitment to the work.
