any indians say rules are ment to be broken. Actually this is just anather way to support their careless attitude towards the nation. We blame politicians, businessman, famous personalities but when it come to self assessment, we indians always draw a fake helpless potrait of ourselves. As if we are the most oppressed, suppressed helpless individuals. But the fact is that our love and responsibility to the nation lies only in our words and advice. Our patriotism sores when there is an india-pakistan match or when JP Dutta makes a "Border". but in real sense we give a dam to the nation. whether it is keeping our country free of pollution or it is about maintaining traffic rules. we know several excuses to break them.

It is an open secret that our Indians follow the rule while they are out of India.I have seen the guys getting into flight at Gulf end like Chua and as he got in and flying to India will statrt demanding Whisky instaed of watyer and fight to his full guts.. for that.First thing he will spit on the road and abuse anything on the way. This for a fact that all these guys do not show their tail; out side any where. This only shows how indisiplined (NOT all of them Indians)many of our guys.Fact remains that the man driving the Merc, opens his window and spits in the main road can be seen only in India, can he do that in US,Sing,Dbuai..Now his son and daugher how much discipline can u expect. The rich, esp.the nuverich finds that it is their right to break signal, rules,, anda small cost they can get out.We have long gap between the arrest on charges and punishment or trial of accused..The gap is longer if the accused is rich and short if poor.Tell me kasliwal, bandra periras case , salman khan ,sanjay dutt and many.. are just egs.Unless our law is stringent and gives out sentence quick nothing will change.Harshad Mehtha died in court after may be 10 Years in Jail.. his counterpart similar case from Singapore was sentenced in 1 week and he died of cancer may be..Justice Delayed is Justice Denied is only the saying and true only for India.. tahst why they say Law takes its own course..God knows when..?? This is India Mahan
Both parents as well society have to play their proper role to prevent this menace. Drinking age should officially be reduced to 18 so that the teenagers do not have to take liquor in hding. They should be encouraged to drink at home (with father, if he drinks) instead going with friends to far away bars for the sole purpose of drinking. Of course, friends should meet and enjoy picnics, but drinking should cease to be the motive for going out.
Police paterolling and checking, particular during night hours, should be more visible to deter drunk drivers.

Law point: I think, these kind of ofences also comes under IPC 302b culpable homicide. And there are instances were punishments upto 10 years were given.
Eliminate at the root: I believe, the road accidents happen mainly because people don't know the safe way to drive. Just driving a vehicle is not quite enough for one to become a driver... he/she should learn the good and safe behaviour on road as well; need to consider fellow citizens on road. For that, the entire licensing system need to be upgraded to meet todays' traffic scenario. Along with making driver understand the good road behaviour, strict enforcing also need to be in place.

You are right; In US any death casued by a drunken driver is termed as man slaughter and is punishable with Jail sentences up to 40 to 50 years. In India the punishment runs concurrently ie in case of death due to negligent driving there are multiple affences including driving under influence, culpable homicide due to negligent driving, intentionally injuring a person etc and punishment for separate wrong doings run simultaneously totalling the jail term to less than 10 years. But in US all the jail terms for separate affences run separately totalling the jail term to more than 25 years. These changes should be immediately incorporated in our legal system to put the fear of god into the minds of youth. Also, the families of victims should be allowed to sue the affenders which is not the case at present.
All this is continue to happen because government of india dont want to stop it. as many as 75% of ipc are same as before independence so practically we are still slaves. most important point: 1.IF GOVT DONT WANT YOU TO DRINK AND DRIVE WHY THE HELL THERE ARE PARKING NEAR BAR AND PERMIT ROOM. why dont government stictly stop any parking near bars, what does it signifies why you need a parking if you are not allowed to drink and drive. why only 2 yrs imprisonment,if a normal accident happen 2 yrs can be justified but for accident because of drink and drive punishment should be equal to that for muder.

Extend it little more.. Prohibit owning knives because there are cases of stabbing with them..
Dear, Parking near bar is not a problem, car should be driven by someone who is not drunk.
There is good parking facility in all bars. If you want people to stop drink and drive then ban parking facility in bars, let all come by walk or by bus or arrange home delevery!!!!
In fact drink & drive should be made a non bailable offence.instead of 2 years RI make it 7 years.Once convicted License should be confiscated,Name should be flashed across India, and from no where he should get his license.Compensation to the victims should be doubled. The root cause of drink and drive is work pressure, stress, late night parties& women. These BPO guys & Gals are prime source of nuisance on roads especially late night drivings in Bangalore.I often drive home late from office, see these BPO craps driving at 120 -140 kmph where roads are not safe for 80 kmph.In some cases these cars axils got bend, poles got damaged, fenders & doors ripped etc.Driving at such high speeds pulling hand breaks, making fun on roads, scaring two wheelers are the curriculam activities. Police is another culprit organisation to help drink & drive a manageable offence.Go to police station bribe them, FIR ready. In Bangalore drink & Drive means so simple, police threaten offenders 2000/- fine, speak in Kannada give him 100/- police happy & offender happy.Law breakers are Police first,Drunk drivers next,Law and Lawyers third...
