Guru Poornima is also popularly known as Vyas Purnima after Maharshi Vyasa. Vyasdev is the author of epic Mahabharata. He is also the compiler and editor of Vedas, and 18 Puranas.
The unparalled knowledge of Santana Dharma that were only registered in the memory of great rihsis (sages) and which were passed on orally from Guru to Shishya for generations was for the first time, compiled and written down by Vyasdev. It is believed that Vyasdev completed the compilation of the four Vedas on the Purnima day (fullmoon day) and therefore the day is referred as Vyas Poornima.
The Vedas were written for the first time on ‘Bhoj Patra’ and to complete this job Vyasdev chose a secluded place and even his close disciples were not allowed to visit him. He went into deep mediation and wrote down from memory the great teachings of the Rishis/Sants of yesteryear. Knowledge which was passed down orally for generations was for the first time written down for future generations. When Vyasdev gave darshan to his disciples after completing the Vedas, they referred to the day as Guru Purnima as Maharshi Vyasa was their Guru.

Have you ever seen the Veda? I am afraid you even don't know the meaning of the word Veda. We expect you talk as educated person, as you can read and write. The word Veda means knowledge, pure knowledge. We all earned Vidya, we have vidyalaya (higest is the Vishvavidyalaya, that is University). The words Veda and Vidya are derived from Vid root means to know. Your avidya (ignorance) is your prime enemy. May Bhagavan give you sat-buddhi.
Sathyam Vada, Dharmam Chara. The Guru guides his desciple with the first two essential aspects of Learning. Sathyam i.e. Truth is very powerful. Truth therefore is God, the Guru teaches his Sishya. Lead a Moral life -Guru teaches the student to practice Dharma. When world changes, practice changes there will be changes in the Dharma. For the present Kali Yuga a simplified way of Dharma has been laid down by the Rishis. Sage Veda Vyasa tops the Sages. Through him the practice and propogation of Vedic and Dharmic life continues. This Poornima is devoted to this sage Vysa and is termed as Vyasa Poornima. Ahimsa is part of the Rajayoga system. Ahimsa is also observed strictly by the Saints by remaining at one location for the next four months termed as Chaathurmaasyam. Dharma,Artha, Kaama and Moksha are the four aims of human beings. The Guru gudies the Sishya to attain the last and important aim i.e. Mokshna. For the present physical body you get a Guru with a physical body. Till the soul attains Moksha the Guru guides his Sishya through several of his births. This link continues till the Sishya attains Moksha and this is the Guru Sishya Bandha -connection.

My Satguru Sadhu Vivekananda Yogheeshwarar had been my store house of energy, lighthouse of wisdom and power house of my spiritual life. He attained mukthi at his tender age say in his late thirties in the year 1973. He was a bachelor. He has miraculously cure snake bites and insect bites merely by chanting mantrams. He successfully treated patients with chronic diseases by administering siddha medicine. He had been my well wisher. With much reverence and solemn obedience, I remember his good deeds of rendering service to the humanity. He had been the principal disciple of Ohm Sree La Shree Ambalavaana Yogheeshwarar, who in turn had been the prime disciple of Ohm Sree La Shree Sadhu Gnana Dhadha. Jai GURUDEV.
