While some may believe the ideas presented here outdated, I found this article very informative and quite interesting (considering that i did not have this much of an information on the subject). One aspect to however add from a legal prespective : There has been a case in US where monitoring (internet usage) by employers including scanning official emails have not been held violating an individual's privacy right, provided the employer has already cautioned its employees about such official scrutinies, either by wording it in their employment contract or as the company's standard corporate/HR policy. The Indian IT Act also has made spying emails or computer network an offence. However, we do not have any judicial ruling on the subject, and as legal commentators often say, even if there was to be a judicial verdict, it will necessarily follow the US decision. An aspect that we may all like to keep in mind next time when we blatantly use official emails or internet in office...Cheers

Don\\\'t worry Alex.Google knows how the things works in the world, they are far more advanced than companies network administrators. They will have more alternatives. The company is so good that it gets 3000 application in US per day to join. You can take your pets to company and here we are talking about blocking the chatting sites.
DO NOT WORRY AT ALL.DO WHATEVER U LIKE.ALWAYS DO GOOD IF U WANT GOOD.Suman Sibal. If u r being spied ,try to spy ur boss too..................................................................

Stop making PERSONAL COMMENTS! I don't even know the author of this article and simply last names getting matched don't label me as Manpreet's 'husband'! n seems like 'asdfg' has some bad experience with sonic and is trying to make personal attacks. I still stick with my point that this is good and informative article for those who are unaware of the subject.

guys, it is very easy to say how to bat on the pitch while sitting in pavalion, let us think othwerway round on this topic. True monitoring is required for surfing facilities but at the same time one has to be reasobale for using the informations out of the monitoring, not ONLY to nail down employees. improvement in productivity should not be limited to this parameter only and has got far more comprehensive meaning and methods of scaling.
It is really an informative article to all internet users. Once I faced problem with this software. But at that time, I was chatting with some important persons about my office matters. However, this type of softwares will be helpful to organizations to improve productivity of their employees. Nowadays, many people who are working with MNCs, they are wasting their time in these types of unproductive activities. But one thing, how they control, employees who are using company's website for chatting with their colleagues?
If the company can provide lots facility, whay cant they provide internet facility,Give away a half an hour for surfing the net. Then no need of all above said headache.Even through mobile also you can access vulgar.
This is a good article to keep employees aware of such restrictions at workplaces. The organization should INFORM employees for any such restrictions as this is something very sensitive when it comes to employee's trust as well.
Unless explained well, on the contrary the youth might feel bad about these restrictions placed on their activities.
I believe given a work environment where you have some exciting, challenging work to do, and deadlines to meet, assuming you are pursuing a career that interests you and not look at it just as a source of steady income; one would never think of wandering around web pages.
These practices might scare away a person from browsing net; but there are many other ways people might waste time ex: long lunch hours, coffee breaks, to quote some examples. So the feeling should come from with in. It should hence be a manager's job to look at this and place extra responsibilities and leverage a resource in a better way.
But a company SHOULD definitely inform the employees before hand, giving some consideration to employee%u2019s PRIVACY and right to KNOWLEDGE, in case it uses such crazy spy wares like the ones that capture key strokes / screen shots.
