I lived in Coorg, Madikeri to be precise, for 3 idylic years. Coorg is a place to live in, not to visit. It does not have many so-called amenities and tourist attractions for which reason it has remained unspoilt. But it is the showpiece of the western ghats and to me, its closest to heaven on earth.

you are right. eating is not all but a selection is always welcome. Plus the scenes are not great for those of us who have seen many other hilly areas of the country. sorry to have hurt you as that was not my intention. Suiggest you visit other hill stations and you will understand.

Coorg is not a place who come in search of chinese or punjabi food. Try local cuisine pandi curry (pork), kadumbuttu (rice dumplings), nool puttu (rice noodles) & votti (rice rotti). The best way to enjoy coorg is to be a guest in a coffee estate or homestay. Do not expect that you land in Madikeri & find lots of hotels, restaurants & travel agencies to entertain you.

I seem to have touched a very sensitive gastronomic chord of respondents. I thought the idea is to post your impressions not to debate. I wish there will be some coffee estate to take me in as a guest when (and if) I visit Coorg again.

you go to a hill station to enjoy the nature and the different food that you normally don't get where you live in the city. Whats the fun in expecting the same kinda cuisines what you get in a city??? In coorg you get food from south india like idli, dosa to north indian food like roti, sabjis, dals etc. For non-veg also you get chicken, and red meat food. I dunno what cuisine u were looking for?? FYI I have seen many other hill stations as well including Coorg like ooty, Munnar, Thekkady, Kodaikanal, Nainital, Mahabaleshwar, Darjeeling, Shimla, Kullu, Manali etc.
Busy and bust in the city??need to detoxify the lungs.Need to purge out all the pollutants. the recommended abode would be serene COORG.The land of the beautiful and brave kodvas. With all kinda of greens surrounding you also the diffrent hues of blues in the lakes, streams and rivers. Nothing but a nature lovers paradise. If staying deep within a estate isnt acceptable to you, there is always serene, well accomadated, pleasant, well furnished, good hotels around. The most recommended hotel would be HOTEL NANDANAVANA-GONICOPPAL-SOUTH COORG. A very well furnished hotel with all amenties deep in the heart land of coorg.with beautiful estates around. Also very pleasant on your purse strings. If intrested you can contact 08274-247001 OR 91 9448156621 OR 91 9845199683. wish you a very happy and pleasnt holiday in coorg. You wouldnt regret it.
