INDIAN TRADITION OF COMBINED FAMILY IS STRONG ENOUGH TO CATER THE NEEDS OF SOCIETY
by muralidhar kanchi on Jun 25, 2007 08:36 PM  Permalink

It's meaningless graft certain things from western society into Indian one. The very concept of Society in West countries grossly differs from that in India, which has time tested system that has been evolving for the past 5000 yrs. No parents tolerate cruelty to their kids. Nor do any of the citizen. Children mind must be tuned at the tender age itself so that the society grow healthier generation by generation. Our society, if let grow on it's own, is stronger enough to take care of the good of the future citizens. No law is needed for the parents. Law must be there to protect children from cruel acts. But, then CRUELITY must be defined to differentiate from the acts of the parents to teach their kids. Instead of enforcing the law on parents, give them proper councelling before the child birth itself. This is there in all developed countries, not only in theory(in the form of Law) but also in sincere action(sincere enforcement of councelling). Even concelling centers are not needed if we allow combined family system to grow in a healthy way. Long and short is that, our stupid politicians or so-called half knowledged social workers need not worry of this issue. OUR INDIAN TRADITION OF COMBINED FAMILY ITSELF IS STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THE SOCIAL NEEDS. Its idiocity to break the existing healthy system and graft a weak western based rule of law in social domain system.

My opinion
by kushal bansal on Jun 25, 2007 08:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I feel that scolding and slapping should be permissible as every parent is careful about their wards and punish children in order to discipline them. However child abuse in forms of whipping, thrashing and forcing child to do menial jobs should be dealt with seriously. Also any form of abuse (including hitting or slapping) from strangers(i.e not parents) should be considered as an culpable offense.

finally this law has been made in india whereas developed countries like US and UK it was made eons back, there thrashing kids is against the law there are other methods like grounding, curfew, taking away his playtime to discipline a child.... looks like india finally is taking its strides to become a developed country in the sense of legal matters as well.... what we need now is more laws to curb the physical abuse by cops and other laws stringently followed to strengthen the fundamental rights of the citizens.

Mr Aftab, It is there in our society too. So far it is confined to street children, orphans, and very poor people. Root coz here is poverty and illiteracy. But, in developed countries, the situation is different. By following their culture, we would be spreading meance to nook and corner of the society, instead of eradicating it. Try to recoginize the strength of our system my dear brother.

Do you realise or have you seen the kind of lives those kids live in countries like US or UK. Its such a shocker to see these kids behave like hooligans without any control from any one whatsoever. I am sure if u saw a child of 8 smoking and a gang of toddlers and teenagers behaving violently and unsocially, yhou'd like to rethink on your opinion.

Take in the right context
by Arun Kumar on Jun 25, 2007 07:57 PM  Permalink

Punishment for discipling is fine, cruel treatment is not. So there should be some mechanism to check the later.
However as in our country this law can also be put to innovative usage. (like anti-dowry law)

if you don't spank your child at the appropriate time, you can rest assured that the public will do it at their convenience.

Son against father and daughter againt mother
by sivajibhai on Jun 25, 2007 07:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

After dividing the country into castes and religion now congressmen are out to pit children against parents. One must say they have learnt the British art of Divide and Rule. What these congressmen need is a good spanking themselves. Morons all.
