I think instead of doing anything wrong with a poor chap who was earning his livinghood through telemarketing we have to slap the telephone companies who sale our data base and this rediff people who are asking us to go on wrong path

oh yes. i just ask these people to send their representative over to my office. when he's here, i ask security to take his keys and cell fone as "security measure" and make him sit for a few hours. then i call him in and we all sit and grill him and ask him to speak with hyis boss and so on ... another neat way is to ask these guys to come over and meet you at a fictitious address. he'll go, not find the place and call you. you then say that you are on your way and will reach in 30 mins and ask him to wait. it works! i've never been bothered by the same people again!

pls put urself in place of the tele.guy for just 5 mins and think how u will feel if someone does the same to u ... it will be a great fun man.... dnt think only abt telemarketing field, it can happen with anyone.. so stop making fun of any ones profession.. if u r not interesed ..tell is straight away and disconnect the call ...u dnt have any rights to play around with the people like this
Agreed we all have been plagued by these unwanted calls which we never liked. But is it correct to make fun of a fellow human being ? He/She is merely doing his/her duty. Are you getting threatened ? Why you cannot tactfully end the conversation/call ? All of us want an escape route. Why we never shout at food vendors when we go to a street littered with food stalls ? Or whey nobody shouts at the vendors at Janpath ? Have you seen how med.rep. work ? Have sympathy on them. All of us are vending and selling something or the other. The ways of selling differ. Take it easy. Will you like being made fun of ?

U have a point there. I agree with you. But, at Janpath or Sarojninagar or for that matter anywhere, they are not going to come to your house or follow you wherever you go, unlike telecallers who persistently keep calling even if you request them not to do so or decline their offer. They will get back to you from someother number or by someother name. They have ur telephone number and mind you they can call you anytime of the day without even bothering to consider where ur or what ur doing.
another response is ' yes, i am very interested in your product. please send your chap to my place to explain me everything in person' He rarely comes, but if ever he does, its better dealing with a guy in front of you than one at the other end of a phone.
TELEMARKETING GUYS ARE NOT AS BLESSED AS YOU OR ME ARE, THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING. IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED JUST SAY YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED AND PUT THE Ph DOWN. IT IS VERY SIMPLE... DONT GET ANGRY ON THEM. I AM SURE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO BE BLAMED ARE THE CELL PHONE COMPANY BECOZ THEY SELL THE DATA BASE TO OTHER BANKS AND MAKE MONEY.
Telemarketing is a legal way of doing business. It is no different than receiving unsolicited emails and snail mails and all htose hoarding you are forced to see all around. The choice is yours to be party or not. The person writing this article probalby did not have an interesting offer from the telemarketing seller. I see no point in mis-behaving with a telemarketer. You cannot simply act like dumping a post-mail in waste bin or punch the delete button. Ultimately it is a fellow human calling you s/he is doing a job. Why abuse a telemarketer. Ideally I would complain to the authorities if it is really bothering me and there are various ways. For sure I am not a telemarketer but have received many such calls. Lastly have you ever wondered why are you being called so many times with offers...!!!..it is your behaviour which has helped these marketing companies get to your most personal (unpublished) phone number(s).

One big difference between unsolicited mails and hoardings are that they are non-intrusive, most times. But telemarketing is very intrusive and disturbs your normal activity.
Out of every 100 calls they make, 99 would have been a disturbance and that would have got conveyed to them. But still they keep doing it. If someone cannot correct themselves after knowing they are doing nuisance, sometimes we will have to teach them the hard way without offending them.

Ramkumarji, I can well understand your concern however, I belive being polite is the best way. I am sure you must have been and belive me you will win. Have you ever wondered if one abuses it his/her BP to go up and some people simply enjoy this and they would make sure to call you and also ask their colleagues to call you....simply to harass you. Best = do not stoop low if you think these guys are doing so.
I used to receive lot of calls from citi/abn amro/hdfc/icici banks for credit cards, personal loan, insurance & what not. Initially they were increasing my vocabullary in money market but later on it was very annoying. Initially I used to poliately reply in 'NO', later on used to hang up without replying but when nothing worked, following proved to be master piece.
Everytime I used to get such calls, I said, "Sahab toilet gaye hai". I got about twice or thrice a repeat call but then it literally stopped to a level that when I was in need of a personal loan, I was required to walk in to a bank.

Are we so gullible that the telemarketers are able to call us this many times? I have been called by the same telemarketer twice in a span of a half hour!

Telemarking, causes phone lines to be used unnecessarily most of the time. So electricity gets wasted without it being useful. Because electricity gets consumed, more coal, tree, etc get burned. Ultimately with 1000s of these telemarketing calls, we will consume lot of electricity and further generate heat. There is also problem of secondary heat getting generated by writing about all this on forums like these. So ultimately we are all using up electricity by doing all this. A day will come when greenland and antartica will melt and after that cities like calcutta, mumbai will sink.
It would be simpler to unite and stop telemarketing and save this beautiful planet from getting destroyed.

Fantastic what a futuristic view things are really linked to each other....so why not stop using the computer and internet to reply to this silly issue of telemarketing?
It has become common to receive minimum 10 to 15 calls a day from Cell companies/banks for personal loans/home loans etc. What I do is when they introduce themselves I just say I don't hold an account and do not disturb. I dont wait for their reply and hang down.Secondly I tell them I am interested in a personal loan if the caller givesto me and pays back to company herself/himself.
Now I receive less calls. Yes sometimes we are very rude in replying. But, they don't take no for an answer and keep on blabbering. More particularly stanchart/citi/abnamro. worst banks and worst service. Earlier they won't bother about normal people and concentrated on hi fi customers. Now they are after middle class people as it has become difficult for them to survive.The best way to avoid calls is just disconnect and keep the phone down.

It is also my observation that most calls are from Stanchart/Citi/ABN Amro. I view these banks very negatively now and will never in my life do anything with these banks. They are unethical. I hope these replies come to the notice of these banks and help them realize the damage these telemarketing calls are doing to their reputation.
