obviously work experience gets a person a good position in corporate world. But if qualification accompanies along with his/her work experience he will be given first priority rather than the person who has no experience and has experience but no degree. Becos all the organisations cant take risk if the person does not have degree. In a degree you will bambarded with lot of things which may not be in use at the movement, but when you start to live in paractical it will be lot of useful to you. provided the candidate doesnt have experience he will be trained and get enough exposure after 2 or 3 years. but no company gives a qualification. specially when the time of promotion obviously one will look at all the parameters of an employee and gives an apprisal. In a current rapid growth world one requires work experience along with degree. To meet that need disatance educations came into lime light to make working executives to prove themselves in education field and working field and specifically to meet the company's requirement.
It is foolish to pick & choose one over the other. By citing Narayan Murthy & Dhirubai Ambani; where one is a master degree holder and other is not formally educated we are trying to confuse ovurselves. It is extremely difficult to come across many Dhirubhais. They will be in a position to streamline the resources of Qualified personnel. To an great extent they require proper, whole hearted assistance. Similarly, all educted persons cannot become good entrepreneurs. While every organization require qualified personnel, every expert cannot be a good businessman. It reminds me of one instance when I asked a successful businessman what would be his ambition after achieving so much?? Answer was" I know the difficulties a businessma faces as an illiterate: But now I want my next generation to do business as educated persons. Concluding, I would say that there could be stray instances of unread persons being a successful entrepreneurs. It is necessry to have a proper degree to back up your entrepreneurial instincts.
Theoretical knowledge is always needed with the practical experience to acheive anything in life which is worthy enough. Both knowldge are mutually dependent.
I think degree is vital, with having degree you can better do your job and can value the implication or the mechanism of the same and there are some jobs which can be done only if you have degree for example Advocate or Doctor.
Actually a combination of these two factors is required. Usually we start off working soon after our studies and our theoretical knowledge will be prominent in us. At this stage, we try to put into practice what we got from our degrees. Issues will come up about which we haven't learned or even which we haven't thought about. We will be aware of these issues only with time and not from any book. Now comes the time where we have to put in our management capabilities. This way, as we go up the professional hierarchy, management capabilities must get absorbed into us. When it comes to purely management, what counts more is the hands-on experience. But when it comes to technical side alone, we cant do anything worth without having a theoretical training. In general, practical experience should be backed by the theoretical knowledge of it. Holding a degree with mere theoretical knowledge is not a sign of success or wisdom. So both should go hand in hand.
Both degree and work experience are very much necessary. To access the work,we need a degree, which otherwise we learn by putting in lot of effort to get the experience But nothing like hands on experience it is like chiselling the rock of rough edges which moulds the individual to what he or she is today
