I feel mix of both is necessary depending upon what is the job. Degree provides necessary foudnation whereas experience make you able to do the work. if work is not so much techinical or difficult then you can do is on sole basis of experience only but if it is too much technical or difficult, it is better that you have foundations to support you well. like if you want to run a grocery store, may be experience is enough but if you want to work on complex technical thing, say "E commerce solutions" a degree help you to understand foundations of work.
I believe no book knowledge can give the person as much confidence and ability to handle the job on hand as work experience on site. The degrees can give extra edge to the job as well as knowledge of choices albeit only known on paper and first level entry to a good job.But afterwards only your experience and practical knowhow wins!!So I think, an employer should guage the candidate on his potentials through his experience first and then related degrees.Education is very important but it is of no use if it is not applied in the right direction. In today's changing times, people have an degree in a particular field but have found success in an entirely different area of work and that has been only entirely through working in that field. So for me, work experience wins most of the way!!!
In my opinion, both matters, degree give the basic direction to the vision of a person (some people have vision without degree but this does not mean that education is not important or in other words, if these successful peoples would have been educated, they would have done much better then what they did) and the experience gives you the real path for the vision.
I Think Experience contribute more than your paper degree. When I entered life insurance Business I didnt have any experience or degree certificate with me. In span of five years my business experience I got confidence .I am able to get good money through my business and finally I left my secured job. Which is fetching 24000/per month. Know I am earning more than 75000/- per month in my personal finical advising business. so I believe experience contributes more.
Neither degree nor experience work, it all depends on how one encash it; provided your fate should favour you in both.
Its always better to start early and then try to encash both the degree or experience.
One should be very well able to understand facts & tacts in his concerned field and always keep your goal in your mind and then approach.
The more practical you are, the more perfect you will be in your profession and you will be successful to encash your degree or experience in due course of time.
Well the topic is intresting and also deep to think about. One mans performance are based on his caliber...but how is this measured...is a simple question. But its answer is hard to evaluate.Normally any firm judge a fresher by a persons qualification at the kickstart.A stranger ofcourse could be judged only via his record of proof...which inturn is called the Qualification...a documented profile. But just a document wont predict his 100% success performance. It could be meaured only when he is practcally made to wrk on a platform. Here is what experince counts,So now all would be confused whther an exeperince is just enough for that firm.Well the truth is that qualification and performance are two sides of a coin. Both makes it worthwhile.
I personally prefer work experince to degrees. Having a degree certainly gives a theoretical edge in what ever u do but work experince shows u the ground reality.
no matter how much u achieve studying it is useless unless u appy it and gain some work experince.
e.g. if we look at he example supporting both side of Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani & Mr. Narayan Murthy, the time frame in which Mr. Dhirubhai created wealth was little longer than time frame in which Mr. Narayana Murthy of Infosys crated wealth. There lies the difference between Degree holders & Experienced (who learned through trial and error method).
The advantage of getting professional degree is person can learn pro and cons of the industry learn from experienced people, industries past success/failure stories etc. So they know well how to deal in which situation. As they get experienced day by day they are becoming unbeatable.
So in this 21st century ultimate combination would be to have qualified degree and getting experienced day by day and moment by moment. Learn from surrounding environments, learn, learn and learn by any means. That is the only success formula in this dog eats dog competition. This is what I feel as per my experience.
I certainly feel that a right mix/blend of both is important as they both compliment for each other. Though Dhiru Bhai Bmbani was not much educated but he ensured that his son should get right education as it makes u more methodical, analytical in your approach.
Not Degrees or work experience? say, 'Degrees and work experience as both are important to do something in life.'Degrees'are the doors from which one can enter to the world to fulfil ones own 'dreams. Degrees are the weapons give you strength and confidence to face the world. Imagination is powerful than knowledge Dhirubhai Ambani and Bill Gates, both of them make this say true. But everyone can not do that. In my opinion Degrees are easiest way to enter into the world to prove yourself.
