''IIM'' salaries
by Vaibhav on Mar 24, 2006 05:22 PM  Permalink

It is a point to be noted that only "IIM" graduates get such salaries and still the companies from where they get such salaries still find them cheaper than gaduates from Harvard or Stanford. We should also look at that factor that IIMs are cream la cream of Indian education and are capable of giving much more than just counting $$$ provided to them by their international masters. We should only tap ourselves when every tom, dick and harry in India is able to achive the salary level given to these guys!!!

Shaping Minds
by Sandeep Jaiswal on Mar 24, 2006 04:40 PM  Permalink

I liked the way the article was presented "yeh aaj kal ki IIM salaries" on 22nd March, i would also like to add in this. IIM is known for the quality of education and for their highly intellectual students, why not IIM's pick up an average student and make them get a salary of 84Lakhs worth. Maximum IIM grads are either from IIT or are at par of that level education institutes, why not search diamond from coalmine instead of shaping a well found diamond.

They deserve it!
by Suresh on Mar 24, 2006 01:23 PM  Permalink

Competing among 1.5Lakhs grads, who aspire to do big in future, and winning the seat itself is a great achievement. And the two-years of day/night slogging with prior (quality) experience does justify their salaries!

IIM Graduate
by Rahul on Mar 24, 2006 07:07 AM  Permalink

hi,
being an IIM graduate is not the only thing B stdents need to be, there are many more aspects to be looked at. their degree gets them the job but its their ability which keeps them in there.....so if you have an IIM degree but u are no good to keep up ur ability then there is no difference from an IIM graduate and a B school of ordianry level...

this is just a hype created.......if you go and find graduates in other B schools there are brilliant and scholar students that can prove their candidature in ur company....
i think even graduates from other B schools should be given a chance and the local edcation department should see that they invite comapnies for selection in these B schools....

nice article
by narayan murty on Mar 23, 2006 06:40 PM  Permalink

this article restores a sense of perspective on the subject. the mega salaries bagged by a few which are hyped endlessly by the media create a false impression that everybody at the iims is getting such astronomical salaries. hence even a good offer becomes " bas itna hi" ?. and you are bang on target when u say that the caddy could be the world champion. management is an art which has to be developed over a period of time, just like a marathon . and nobody knows who the winner will be. but then is money a good way to keep score. i think not.and may i add that all your articles which i have read have been equally good. keep up the good work.

Facts & hype
by Rishi on Mar 23, 2006 02:59 PM  Permalink

Hello there,
Somehow I dont think all this media hype about MBAs is correct. I myself am pursuing a masters in management at London's top university. I have not seen such a rush after guys from Oxford, cambridge or my Imperial. I feel why there is such a hype about this is because IIM is better "brand" than other institutios. I would like draw attentions of future MBA aspirants that they should not confuse this brand equity of the institutes with their own job prosperity. One can refer a Mintzberg in "Managers not MBAs" or a recent study done by BusinessWeek which says that only 1 in 4000 students of to 10 Biz schools in the world make it to become CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
So, like Rashmi said, it is entirely upto us to prove. at least in western world, no body assumes that you are great only because you passed from a top university. To note, current CEO of London Underground Metro Rail is someone who was a DRIVER in the service before!

My clash comes right here
by Pradeep Kotari on Mar 23, 2006 12:41 PM  Permalink

I often get these conflicting thoughts, whether to follow my heart and go for a profession which involves some risk financially, that too intitially, like writng or directing . or to get a safe and secure job like any other person and compromise in life.

I am 23 years old, working in a software company , coding , which is nothing more than copying and pasting code, a mundane job which any high school lad could pull off with ease. I know this is not what i am born to do . I know this is not going to take me any where. I mean i wanna get big in life. I wanna do what i can best, and not do what when an average person does, looks better. Yes, thats ur line.
I liked this phrase very much :
" Due to this, a lot of folks who might have made great journalists end up as Vice Presidents of Blah somewhere. But that's the individual's call. If you don't believe you have it in you to be 'outstanding', you prefer to stick where the averages look better."

The question which always comes to my mind is the same, what to do with my life, my career. which path to take. I'm still near the cross roads and still have a long road to go ahead.
