Work-ex is definitely preferred before a MBA. MBA will make much more sense to the candidate if he has had exp of working in a firm before. It will be easy for him to relate to the concepts taught in class. From the employer's point of view,an experienced MBA is better as he can start delivering from the day 0 and will be much more sensitised soul than a fresher. Its important to remember that organisations are made up of people and outputs are a function of people who work there.
Imagine a situation where the co provides u all the luxuries, pay, but without work-that means NO work. I am not talking of profiled work.Just spending time in the office lingering around.
What u would be your suggestion/action in this situation.
Work Experience would definitely make you a better student and practitioner of management. But unfortunately, there are little opportunities for working professionals to pursue MBA in India. None of the reputed BSchools are conducting ON THE JOB MBA programme for executives. Only option is IGNOU, and many institutions follow step motherly attitude towards correspondence courses, though is of much superior quality.
yes.it is better to have the work experience before doing the MBA.only problem is that we may not be able to get the work experience in all the areas of management because generally the companies the employee in one department.to overcome this it is suugested that the MBA should be allowed to be completed in a modular form.there is no point asking a finace professional to do a HR course early in his carrier.as one progressen in career towards higher level of management where broader skills are required one can always come back and do the remaining modules.this will encourage people to take a break from the work and complete the MBA in tandem with personal growth and company requirements.
Well shalini, First of all that depends from where you want to pursue your MBA if its IIM then it doesnt matter and if it is any other college then also it doesnt matter because then even the work Ex wont help.If u want to really get the hang of the real thing go and read Managers not MBAs by Henry Mintzberg .I bet you will realize what u need to do.Please go and have a look at the book. You would understand why i have written all this stuff. Thanks
If you are realy interested to do M.B.A and do not have any financial or family constaints prepare for CAT exams and get in to reputed B schools or otherwise if you are not financially good and have family constraint go for job in a company which encourages its employees not only to do part time M.B.A but also to promote you to the management side after you complete M.B.A
I am working with an mnc since last 3 years and currently doing mba through distance. Go for CET required for getting admission in a good college if you get good marks straightaway get admission in a reputed college as if you are in a reputed college getting a work experience or not doesnt matter however if you fail to get good marks try for a job and after some time get mba simultaneously You will find that the course of mba will be 10 times more interesting as you will try to apply all theories in your work and the whole organisation. Also believe you will have a great chance of reaching to the top management due to the mba thinking installed in you
Hi I have doing my mba through distance, and working since last three years. It doesnt matter what job you take up or which position you work in. If you study mba after taking up a job the subject will be 10 times more interesting and you will try to relate everything you study with your daily work and with the organisational structure as a whole.
