I would like to share my experience rather talking in air. Quality work experience will help more than full time MBA after graduation. MBA from reputed institutes like Bajaj, IIM's, SPJain, etc can be done part time also.
I was a science graduate when I started working full time. Prior to my graduation also I used to work, but will not count that. Today, I have 8 years work experience and currently working for a leading IT company. I am in Europe now on a long term project and earning a salary which a MBA graduate cant get easily. I completed my PGDM 2 years ago and Project Management this year. I have many plans in future on doing further studies but waiting for the correct time. I learnt this from my father who still earns INR 8000. By the way, Infosys, Accenture, TCS don't hire only graduates. May be they think only MBA's, MCA's are smart. The choice is yours. I work with many MBA's & MCA's, but I think big. They have a lot of theory but when it comes to practice your smartness & logic counts.
This are my thoughts. No debates please. I dont want to hurt anybody sentiments. You have one life, enjoy it to the fullest. Invest your money and not your parents. Its your choice.
This refers to the question raised by Ms. Shalini.
In my opinion and experience, joining a work to get experience and simultaneously do MBA through evening college or Open University would be an idle solution.
I started my career as a Secretary and now holding a very responsible Key position in one of the leading company in abroad.
Though I have not done MBA, the company is considering my experience first, while they consider a position to fill as they need the practical output rather than a theoratical knowledge.
Alas, Ms Shalini, its your future and you are the best judge.
I remember being faced with the similar question when I was your age. It is my personal view that if you plan to get an MBA at any point in your life, it is important that you first have some kind of work experience. This not only helps you in understanding which area in management interests you more but also helps in internalizing the MBA courses better once you are back in school. Another plus is that money will be lesser of a constraint in getting the school of your choice.
One hurdle of this approach maybe the quality of openings available after Bachelor degree. This is especially a challenge if you are not in the bigger cities of India. However, given the booming Indian market and increased job creation, this problem can be alleviated somewhat.
First of all let me appreciate your concern. It is a dilema that every commerce graduate go through when he/she is planning to do MBA.
Having couple of year work ex (in the field that you will be pursuing your Masters) before joinin a B school is definitely a added advantage.
On the other hand if you join immediately after your graduation it would be easier for you to continue your studies in the same flow.
From my personal experience, let me tell you that it is not easy to concentrate on studies after some years of work. But if you think that you can study after a couple of years, go for it. Nothing like it.
It is a common fact that study can be continued in one pace. So you have to identify that how much interest you can take while you are in Job, will there be possibility to leave the job while considering various facts of that period. In B schools both kind of Candidates can build and develop their career having work ex or not,in case they plan long term.
Firstly for example, if you are interested in Marketing do some job in any organisation which requires Marketing Executive or sales. this is the basic job which you will be offered for a graduate. starting a career with sales will give u indepth knowledge abt the market and also it helps u to increase ur interpersonal skills. work atlest for 2 years. then do MBA in top 50 colleges. in the mean time u study for ur exams viz..CAT, MAT, SNAP & XAT.
AND NEXT THING IS About business schools, u take any top 50 business schools u need to clear entrance exam, then follwed by GD N INTERVIEW. If you have already experienced it will be an added advantage definately u will be given more points over non-exp. and it will be easier for u also becasue as you will be having a market knowledge and u can apply ur practical aspects in theory.
For companies also they look for students who have fair knowledge about market, good in acdemics and should be MBA from an reputed college.
If u look at all these aspects u need to work for atlest 2-3 years. Even i completed my BBA, CURRENTLY working in software co.as a Business Development Executive, i will work for 2 yrs then i will do MBA.
The question arise in your mind is very good and important too. Now a days experience has getting much more important than your qualification in any big or small organisation, but if you have the MBA degree of premiere institute, no body will going to ask you your experience. As you are the commerce graduate, prepare for CAT, XAT,MAT or any other top management entrance examination and secure the admission in top institute, You will be definatly place somewhere. So, don't put yourself in such dilemma and prepare for Cat seriously.
However while selecting a candidate, I would prefer an experienced person any time over an MBA without experience. But in this case of shalini as she is in continuation of her studies, its better for her to grab a good degree and academic knowledge first than the real life professional experience.
Wether to do MBS of first gets a good work experience is a question that always keeps us in dilemma. What I can convince you that so one can give a perfect answer for this question. The best and the close answer to this question is it depends on you work profile. I you are into export-import then a PGD in that field is must before you start. But if you are a IT Professional then stick on for 5 to 6 years and then do MBA.
