Quality of Worldspace
by chiradeep on Aug 19, 2006 12:09 PM  Permalink

I had picked up worldspace much before their launch in Hyderabad with all the fanfare.

I was really keen on it and i found out their website and sent a mail to get the details of the local distributor(they didn't have any dealers then) and paid and picked up the receiver. I have renewed two subscriptions till date.

I was also instrumental in 6 more people picking it up after my recommendation.

The quality and range of music was damn good, but unfortunately the quality has begun to drop slowly and steadly.

I & my wife listen to Farishta and Jhankaar regularly. The quality of music has really dropped, in them. There are a lot of repetitions of the songs and the spread is also come down. I am seriously contemplating whether it is worth renewing my subsription the third time now.

regards

Chiradeep

My take on the worldspace service
by Shesh on Aug 19, 2006 11:22 AM  Permalink

Let me say that I was one of very first world space listeners -- from about 6 years back-- It was just intorduced to India. As I was working for a company then that was into consumer electronics, I bought the original SANYO JAPAN-receiver- which I have hooked up to my music system thru the amplifier...( At that time there were 4 receivers available-SANYO ; HITACHI ; JVC & PANASONIC-- ALL IMORTED)

My grouse is it was free in those days. All the channels were available free to air & now I am forced to pay for them... I dont like this at all... This reeks of control. If I dont pay, the service is cut off & the equipment is useless....

I feel there can be a few advts so that the subscription should become zero -- like before

This has to be seriously taken up as a movement I feel....

I am using world space radio since last one year or so.It is great radio listening but the signal reception is a big problem. Here it is raining continuously since last two and a half months and my signal is gone.I have not tuned during this period.Added to it the customer service is not providing satisfactory solution.Whenever, there is sunlight for 3-4 days we get the signal from the same antenna position.

world space radio has spared me that boredom of local FM radio stations, which had become quite boring,so n so I had stopped listening to 'em!
Now I have such a wide variety of uninterrupted music. No doubt I have been a vivid radio listener for years.Worldspace only made it so much better!!

Irrespective , of the cheap or expensive hardware model to choose from ; the periodical rental charges proves to be a bit heavy on a person particularly after the inital novelty has worn off : Myself particularly is interested in reselling my set, which is a 'polytron' model attached with a built in audio cassette player. Thanks.

Worldspace

I've had Worldspace for about 4 months, and I absolutely love it. The sheer variety it offers is unparalelled in India. You name it, and they have that musical genre.
In my house it's on for hours. Definitely worth the investment. If you are truly a music lover and you want exposure to all sorts of music, then Worldspace is for you.
Happy Listening!

World Space Radio

I have been using the WSR for almost a year now and disagree with the comment on service from World Space - I did have a problem a couple of months after I got the receiver, so I made a call to the number that says "Customer Care" and I was pleasantly surprised with the prompt replies to my queries including them informing me that the code had been changed and in giving me the new code and lo and behold, Orbit Rock was rocking again. World Space sends in regular news by post and by mail if one opts for it. Music is life - Get World Space and you'll live it.

World Space Radio-Comments
by KK Hans on Aug 18, 2006 10:19 PM  Permalink

1.Highly location sensitive-you cant take it about even in the house
2.Heavily weighted towards western music-look at the channel choice in the article in rediff just 2 hindi music channels vs a dozen for western music;and out of the 2, programming for Jhankar, the comtemporary film music channel is pretty crappy-FM gives you 6 channels all for free and with far better programme content.
3.Unethical organisation-these guys dont keep their word.
4. Unlike as stated in the article, there is no data or multimedia service.
5.DTH is a much better value proposition-DVD quality TV channels plus audio channels and a host of other features.
6. Similarly, just for music, internet radio is much better -far greater variety, and all for free.
7. No money back in case you dont wish to continue with the service-you're stuck with the receiver-just ask these guys for a 15 day free trial and see the respone. Recently, I got a sales call from these people offering me a free 3 month trial, but asking me to purchase a receiver for 1500 bucks to avail of this offer, the receiver being non returnable!I ask you ,what kind of marketing is this?
I would say ,think very thoroughly beforeyou venture.
