You should find out with the university which banks are in there vicinity. Usually, most universities have a bank on campus.

You can open an account in any Nationalised bank like Wachovia or Bank of America. The orientation officer in you Uiversity will give you more details on this.

UT Austin is one of the top ranked Universities in the US for many programs. It depends on
what course/program you are targetting. The campus is excellent, and the city is very safe and
nice. But it owuld help to research UT Austin's ranking for your specific program before you
confused what to study after graduation

hi
Im Amrita from kannur, india. At present im doing my final yr biochemistry. My parents wants me to study something based on IT field. But im interested in doin medical pharmacology or med biochem. They say it doesnt ve much scope.im really confused & tensed.i want to attain a good job too.
I want to pursue a Ph.D in U.S.A and for that I am preparing myself for the GRE. Since my subject is Anthropology which requires extensive field work and that too outside the states, shall I be given the assistantship in any case?
Can i please get information about dentistry-POST GRADUATION in the US. How do i go about ....whuch exams do i give and are there any usefull scholarships?
4. On campus jobs pay very little and may be sufficient to only support you housing and groceries. It depends on where you live. I live in the NY areas and the housing costs are so high that my on-campus job did not even cover my monthly rent.
5. Groceries and living costs are very affordable in the US. For a moderate living in a student budget, I would say $20 a week would be sufficient (provided you do most cooking at home).
6. Entertainment in the US is in plenty but it comes at a cost! You will not be able to enjoy much in a student budget but again that is fine as there is always a other day. Once you establish yourself the options are limitless.
7. INS rules and immigration procedures have been tightened like never before. Please keep that in mind. Worst case senario make sure that you take into consideration the limited H1 numbers and the possibility of having to go back home upon graduation. From my experience given that there are only 65,000 H1 visa available and about 600,000 Int'l students graduating each year, it does not hurt to plan ahead.
Welcome Sidharth. I agree with the messages posted by other members and I appreciate the candid responses. To summarize please note that:
1. While all of us have tried and should continue to obtain some kind of funding or assistantship from the University, you should be prepared to fund your eductaion in the worst case situation that you do not get the required funding. Please note that most US Universities have restricted funding lately particularly to international students.
2. If your situation back home is not very sound financially I would consider getting a loan approved for the entire cost of your education in India. You can now get education loans in India for up to $50,000 each year at good rates. However you would have to arrange for a colateral as we do not get un-colateralized educational loans in India unlike the US.
3. For the most part, International Students do not qualify for loans in the US. I have heard of some very rare exceptions but would not keep my hopes high on loans in the US.
i am a dentist n want to go to US for post graduation.im appearing for my toefl and gre ..i will be doin a 1 n 1/2 yr para dental couse in orthodontics..wil i still hv to appear for USMLE examsz?? for post graduation?? can i appear directly for D.D.S after thse entrace exams..ie.; gre n toefl??
This is padmanabhan. I have completed my bds in India this year. I had a gre score of 950-1000. toefl score of 260. I had applied for a phd oral biology(ohio) n ms oral radiology(chapell hill, north carolina). I was repiled that there was considerable interest in my application for phd but it was not possible for them to provide me a seat because there were no vacancies n i was asked to consider applyin next year. It was the same with the ms application too but they said that they couldn accept me as there is a lack of financ on the part of the university to support international students, this year. My queries are-
1) is it a worthy option to reapply this year
2) are there chances for me to discontinue my phd n shift to a ms in clinical course after completing my national boards. will it be a worthy option considering the fact that my primary interest is to settle n earn in us.
3) are there good scope of gettinbg a good job after a phd in oral biology. kindly help.
