If you want to do a course based MS, then there won't be much difference between your choice of universities. However, if you want to do a thesis option, then your choice of specialization should dictate your choice of univerities. Can you elaborate on which subject (specialization) you want to do your MS in Mechanical Engineering?

It is not Important which universities are good, important is that what GRE score you are expecting and also your acadamics. Plan to apply in universities which fit into your GRE score. I am telling you a few good universities for GRE 1400+ universities, Penn state, Vanderbilt, Univ of Maryland at College Park, UIC, U Penn, SUNNY Buffalo, U of Michigan at Ann Arbor and many more.
Below is a message I posted earlier(just for ur quick reference). I forgot to mention that I already have a B1 visa, so would that speed up the process for my student visa or should I travel on B1 and get it changed there?. Also I would like to know which is exam should I give in order to land up in time for earliest semister in US. I dont want to waste n e time. I am 25 already.
Hi,
I am BA(Eco) graduate and have been into computers since I did a 2 sem course from NIIT back in 1997. However I dont think I can add that to my certificates(scores were not impressive). Now I am going to Houston-Texas for higher education. It will be great if you could suggest a good course related to computers/IT (preferably hardware)which has good prospects in India since I do not intend to migrate to the US.Please do let me know which uni.or college in Houston offers the course. One last thing which test or exam do I have to give to apply for the same ?
Thanks a lot in advance. You guys r doin a great Job.

you did not mention that you took GRE or not. Also, you have only done BA, which is 3 yr degree in India and you are not eligible for a Masters degree in US.

Look, there is nothing like MCA in US. You just did 15 years of education, because BCA is only for 3 years, you will not be accepted for MS course. Try MCA in India or atleast one year of MCA more so that it completes your 16 years of education.
hi, we wanted to send our son to US for further studies i.e. MS He got good scores in GRE, TOEFL and got I 20 in a very good university as well. But the thing is he was rejected his visa twice stating both the times that he is a potential immigrant. Wht to do, we are vexed with this, shall we try again?

your son need to give a very good reason to come back after completing MS. There are 2 ways to do it, either show huge cash and a lot of property for your son or get a appointment letter or somthing saying that he will get a job as soon as he will come back to India. Bottom line is that, you have to show them that you have reasons to come back.

Hello Mrs Lakshmi, I am in NY since 2 years and completed my 3 years masters in 1.5 years. This is what my suggestion is: I think he should apply again and make sure during the interview he answers all of the questions which makes them feel that he loooooooooooves India and would want to return back asap on order to serve for the country. Hope this was of any help.
Please do not hesitate to write back to me if needed. TC All the best. Preeti Kanani

Hello madam, Well you can definitely try again... 2 of my friends got it the third time.. Jst remember to ask him to be truthful in the answers... When they ask him "Why do you want to go to this univ?".. he should not say. " because I want to come back to India".. a more appropriate answer would be ... " because I am very passionate about my education and want to learn a lot".... He has to be calm and collected during the interview process. don't mention anywhere that you have a relative in the US at all!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be glad to help out.. I've been here 13 years. -sam

RE:American univ. In India
by prashant rai on Aug 08, 2006 07:33 PM Permalink
Look, there is nothing like American university in India, its an illusion. Let me tell you your degree is only an American degree if your university is located in US and you have done your full time education in a US campus, and only then you will get OPT to work in US. One more clarification on your BBA drgree, your BBA must be a 3 year degree but there is no 3 years degree in US. Now answer for your second question, part time experience is not counted as experience in US for doing MBA. Third question, yes, you can do PHD in management, but before that you need a MBA degree and atleast 3-5 years of experience.
2 years of exp. in Infosys as a software enginner.
I want to go for MIS course in US univ.
I would like to know the job prospects of this course as direct ranking of univ. acc. to course are not there and not many univ are offering this course.
Is it good to go for this course or should i go to full time MBA(restriction is funds)
RE:MIS course and job scenario
by vishnu on Aug 09, 2006 12:59 AM Permalink
IMHO, With an undergrad degree in engineering and a few years at Infosys, an MIS program is not going to add as much value to your resume as an MBA would.
If you are interested in MBA, you can address funds issue by going for a part-time program (NYU, Univ of Chicago, UCLA, Michigan offer excellent part time programs)
You should also consider other majors based on the industry that you want to focus in (either in an IT capacity or direct), such as Finance/Manufacturing/Consulting
Getting back to IT would always be an easier fall-back in terms of job prospects. With MBA as a base, you can go for MGMT Consulting and Financial Services jobs as well.
I had completed my Master's degree in Biochemistry in June 2005 from a reputed university and currently working as a clinical research coordinator in a private hospital at Hyderabad. How can i get a H1 Visa to work in US in Clinical field.
RE:H1 Visa in clinical research.
by prashant rai on Aug 08, 2006 07:47 PM Permalink
getiing H1 in clinical is very difficult and chances of rejection is very high. Even people with MBBS and MS degree dont get H1, they come here for masters degree and clear USMLE before dreaming about clinical stuff here. you should take GRE and come here for a masters and then you can get H1 from here.
