Could you also research if NRI s can do trading via the web from abroad. If so, how to open an account. Especially for NRI's living in the U.S.A. and holding a U.S. passport.
I am discovering that there are serious problems in ICICIDirect trading platform. There might be a huge fraud going on without anyone's knowledge. I will try to post some details later after I get the time to carefully consolidate them.
For beginners, here are a few instances: MY calculations by a 10 digit casio calculator on a stock transaction showed a commission of a few paisas less than what they charged me. When contacted customer services, they accepted the mistake (gave a complaint nunmber) but did send a followup communication. I was too busy to fight for a few paisas. The thing that amazes me is that all the calculations are done by a computer program. Even with a 32 bit precision) such error is likely to be out of the tolerance range. So did I hit the (in)famous "pentium bug" on their computer, or the software had a bug? If the software had a bug, it should have the same bug in every transaction and every transaction should have been off by a few paisas -- which is certainly not the case. Another possibility that comes to my mind is a malicious software that randomly eats a few paisas from some transactions and transfers them to another account. Such frauds have happened
I am interested to open online trading a/c. i have demat account with ICICI. Is it possible to simply fill the form (sharekhan or ICICI or any other broker) which can be taken by my relative in Mumbai and submit it (forms will be physically delivered duly signed with photographs and proof of residence in India) since presently i am out of India. In case we open NRE a/c with ICICI, what will be the brokerage charges for tansaction and demat annual charges. Will there be diference wrt Indian a/c??

I am an NRI and member of ICICIdirect. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND all NRI to keep away from ICICIdirect because their charges are very very expensive compared with other online brokers for NRI. With ICICIdirect I feel like having a fish bone stuck in my throat.
