Puttur being in Andhra Pradesh attracts people from the remaining three southern states, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerala. It is in correct to say it attracts people from Andhra Pradesh. There ae several such treatments in AP. The author can visit a village near Teanali/Ponnur where cure is offered for Jaundice in a day without the rigours of dietary restrictions for long timeand lots of labour flock in.
You have omitted very important information in your report. One doesn't even have to go to Puttur to get one's fracture treated! Just send an email to the address given: sgr@kgr-putturthailam.com, and the bone-setters ("doctors"!!!) will set it right. I would suggest, however, that one should go to the nearest "allopathic" surgeon for treatment, by way of abundant caution.

hi Dr T S Raman you should not underestimate someothers talent. i know you must be a great surgen.
It is relevant to note that most fractures even in routine medical practise do not require surgery. In fact earlier (probably) 15 years ago many fractures required only immobilization. Today there are more surgical procedures to reduce the rate of complications with traditional therapy and more importantly for a rapid return to routine work. It would be worth considering whether spending 45 days at a naturopathy centre to allow normal healing (which of course can occur at your own house) is better than two days post surgery in a hospital and third day at work doing your routine business. Not undergoing surgery is a bad option for many fractures as the rate of deformitites may be high and correcting them is a time aconsuming task. The old adage : a stitch in time saves nine : comes to my mind.

Not every one can afford that surgical treatment to go back to business, because Most of the Indians are daily waged people. It may be better for you not for every one else and daily waged peoples can not afford that much
rediff, being a responsible website, should stop promoting such quacks. The patients who have ended up with permanant deformities following treatments from such Puttur clinics are innumerable-- ask any orthopedician practicing near such puttur clinics.
Don't promote such quacks

Thank you Mr Shenoy. I wish there were more people like you and [Dr?] Somasekhar, who has also posted his views.
Sir, I read ur artcile in rediff reg the treatment of fractures using herbs and eggs.Being an Orthopaedic surgeon,Iam bound to convey certain scientific facts regarding fracture treatment. These ayurveda methods being used for more than 150 years might be true..but can it be proved that all fractures treated by Puthur casts unite without any deformity ???? The truth is ..these casts can be used for simple fractures and they do unite without any deformity. But compound or communited fractures require surgical treatment for them to unite and that is the best option available. In our tertiary centre..we come across a huge number of patients who have tried puthur casts and they return back to us with a deformity which has to be fixed internally/externally,otherwise leading to a permanent deformity and restricted/absence of movements. Moreover, there are incidence of maggots grown within the casts thereby adding more problem to the patient and the doctor. The herbs and the eggs used for fracture healing are not useful in callus formation. So it is a misconception that all fractures unite with puthur casts. .
