Call Centre - NO NO NO NO NO
by Rajeev on Jul 06, 2005 01:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Call Centre jobs are not worth it.. if u analyse them thoroughly. They may offer you good money to begin with.... but where are the chances to grow... nil NIL NIL. So one should go for some specialisation so that growth prospects are better atleast. If someone has graduated with no specialisation... marketing is a better option than call centre jobs.. if you want to grow in life.. Well the choice is obviously yours.. mine is just an advice... and out of experience.

Great Article
by chetan on Jul 06, 2005 12:36 PM  Permalink

i do think that todays youth are attracted to call centres bcoz of the hefty salaries they pay. Bcoms in Accenture earn more than engineers in tcs or infy!! But in the end everything is abt posterity!

also these call centers try to americanized everything hence such retards from call centres are busy spending their money in "cool" places like barista and the rest.

not to mention that the indian education system is really sad that educated ppl are taking up such jobs!

Why are people aganist BPO's?
by Raj on Jul 06, 2005 12:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There are many articles written aganist BPO's that they are bad etc etc. I dont understand these people. Who said its so bad. There maybe ups and downs - but thats there in all the business. Who can gaurantee that Aarti's son's career will flourish in the hotel business. It may turn out to be worse than she thinks it is in Call centers. Even programmers complaint of their jobs in IT industry. It all about attitude. People who are not in BPO's love to loathe it !!!

Little knowledge is dangerous
by Edwin on Jul 06, 2005 12:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi
I dont believe I am reading this article on rediff. How can you say call centre is not a good choice when people are making a career out of it. This I think is a very amateauristic article. I can understand people who have specific skill but then still opt for Call centre. I think its not the fast money. Its the scope. I dont know whether the writer has spent even 1 night in a call centre or else he would know how challenging the job is and why you are paid that highly. People call it monotonous. Which job isnt. I enjoy my work and I know in 2-3 years time I will be a Ops Manager. Call centre is becoming a problem for the other industries cos they cant afford the salary and the growth like call centres too. Most people who talk bad about call centres badly are the ones who have never been there. ITS NOT THE LAST OPTION ITS THE BEST OPTION. I was into a leading media company but I am very happy today, fulfilling all my dreams. House, vehicle and future is also secure.

Thanks
Edwin

Fool's paradise means call centre job
by Abhishek Sukhdevan on Jul 06, 2005 12:01 PM  Permalink

I feel sorry for todays youngsters who just leave their studies who just don;t give importance to their studies and join call centre thinking that yes this is the dream job which i was looking for.I would like to say they are living in fool's paradise.

What if tommorrow Uncle Sam says no more outsourcing to India and all American jobs should remain with USA these call centre people will go nowhere.Just think about the health problems which one has to face due to constant nights.Call centre jobs are like going to Dubai for a short period and to earn maximum money.Call centre job is not feasible in thelong run

What i would recomend that though it has been outsourced to INDIA anything can happen in future and if that anything happens when you are in your 40th year of your life and all callcentres close down you will be nowhere no one willrecruit you in a big MNC because of your age you will have to settle down with anything between 4000 to 5000.

So i think that a person should concentrate on Masters or post graduate education and then try to find a job with an Indian based MNc where growth will also be there and salary will also increase slowly as you go on gaining experience.

Untouchables
by Joydeep Menon on Jul 06, 2005 11:50 AM  Permalink

Hello All,
I have been a part of a Call Centre in Bangalore once upon a time. I quit the industry because I was regarded as an untouchable in other industry. Primarily I oppose the culture and decoram of Call Centre industry and would advice young souls think twice before you opt for a Call centre job. As there are many good sides of this industry, There are equally wrong side to this kind of profile. This industry avails you to earn money but simultaneously destroys you job, your social status and most importantly your home. I have seen call centre executives turn into restless, adamant, care a damn characters over a period of time. They just dont realize they are destorying their career for peanuts that these institutions pay in terms of their valuable services. Also as an Indian, I can do better than a Call centre job as we possess better analytical skills than people in US or UK. They get paid 10 times more than what we get. Its not fair on the employers to pay less to Indian executives. I again see the advent of discrimination and Slavery in the global scenario openly. Regards

Call Cntr Jobs
by Sangeet Verma on Jul 06, 2005 11:44 AM  Permalink

Tragic. Our society stll has people who believe in the high and low type jobs. Call center jobs are not only here to stay, but offer better and faster chances of growth to those who believe in working hard and against conventions in a 24x7 environment. Comparing them with cheap articles and shortcuts only reflects how misinformed and biased the author is. Suggest she reads the Bostons report 2004. The schedules may be demanding and yes, the culture unorthodox, but isnt that the way the IT industry in India started, and isnt it the same noise we made about them also?

nights shift jobs not suited for human body
by Candy Joseph on Jul 06, 2005 11:44 AM  Permalink

Call centre offers jobs to hundreds of people. But in terms can anyone accept this kind of job as a career. With due respects to call centres, the shift jobs here play havoc with the human system. Only people with dire need of income should opt for it. Under no circumstance call centres jobs (i mean the night shifts here)must be taken on a permanent basis. Chances are you will regret it later.
