Sports as serious Business
by Julius Augustine on May 08, 2008 07:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Earlier sports was for enjoyment and bringing prestige to the country. Today it is all about business. Is Lalit Modi a cricket fanatic that instead of looking after his multi-million empire such as Modi Entertainment (the company which distributed, Nickelodeon, ESPN, Hallmark etc. in India)& Buenavista is running the BCCI? Maybe he is, but for him it is also business. IPL redefines the business of cricket where you 'buy' and 'sell' players and clubs. So it is very natural to talk about Return on Investment (ROI) which is what the above charts and figures are for. While many think it is a waste of time, it is serious business with a lot of money at stake. What we need is a similar evaluation stick in other sports as well and I wish that the BCCI keeps a fraction of the money to develop other sports. Here everybody makes a profit with no one making a loss in the long run.

So many numbers...absolutely no clue!

I like the graphs and colours. Perhaps this is the way some sick nerds like to enjoy this game. By coming up with these complex tables and numbers.

Guys, looks like you have quite a lot of time to spend on such rubbish. Rediff also wasted their space with this. Let us watch and read about some good cricket !

No way... Yusuf Pathan has earned the most man of the matches among Indian players... similarly RP Singh (10 wkts) and Zaheer (12 wkts) are the best bowlers of the tournament. May be Ishant (4 wkts) and Sreesanth can take a break ;)

Mr.Ram, am amazed how u guys bring regions into all this! Dinda has definitely performed wonderfully, with even ponting and buchanan praising him so much that he was asked to open the bowling. By the way, shukla is not a bong and wonder whether dinda is a bong too. So much for ur knowledge! Lest u think i am bong, i would like to inform u that i am tamil but is not bound by regional considerations.
