Earlier sports was for enjoyment and bringing prestige to the country. Today it is all about business. Is Lalit Modi a cricket fanatic that instead of looking after his multi-million empire such as Modi Entertainment (the company which distributed, Nickelodeon, ESPN, Hallmark etc. in India)& Buenavista is running the BCCI? Maybe he is, but for him it is also business. IPL redefines the business of cricket where you 'buy' and 'sell' players and clubs. So it is very natural to talk about Return on Investment (ROI) which is what the above charts and figures are for. While many think it is a waste of time, it is serious business with a lot of money at stake. What we need is a similar evaluation stick in other sports as well and I wish that the BCCI keeps a fraction of the money to develop other sports. Here everybody makes a profit with no one making a loss in the long run.
