Boycott
by Ranjeet Pardeshi on Jan 08, 2008 02:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I would also request the Indians who are paying good money to Aussie cricket players to come perform in India (whether on the ground - IPL or off it like Movie acting) to reconsider whether boycotting Aussie cricket connections would serve them better! I definitely would advise Gavaskar to request that his name be removed from the trophy - it is an insult to allow his name to be linked with such an unsportsmanlike event.

I agree. Lets reduce the Aussie cricketers wage frm $1MAus/yr to $500,000Aus/yr. They'll have to move out of 3 storey houses into 2. Lets take Gavaskars name off the trophy. We don't want someones name on the trophy who was given out LBW and refused to continue playing the game. Unsportsmanlike conduct has no place on this trophy.

In case you are not aware then also the protest from Sunny was against a blatant wrong decision.

We all know the aussie spirit now. Do you think Lillee and Thommo were any better then the current lot ?

Yeah, Lillee and Thommo were quicker bowlers.

Hi Prem, Agree with you except about Tendulkar's ability.

This is the only sore point of your brilliant counter to this craddock guy.
I really do not know if you have played competitive organised Cricket yourself, but the fact is there ought to be 11 players contributing to the result of a game. That is what made the West indies team of 60's and 70's and the Australian outfits of 90's and 2000's!
When runs are put on board, the bowlers need to get the wickets 7 vice vrsa when wickets are taken the batmen should capitalise.
The single handed victories, by the so called match winners, is in my understanding of the game a once in an life-time achievement, when everyone fails you wage a lone battle and win it for the team.
Gilchrist & the great Gary sobers scored their runs as number sevens, with the tail wagging merrily with them. Not that the tail was either batting wise incompetent or had better abilities than the current Kumble,Bhajji, zaheer. ( RP & Ishant are unknown qunatities, but from what i can see, they both are good for 50 runs and 100 balls if the need arise)
case in point is the Chennai test where scahin tok us nearly to victory, only for the last 4 greats, buckling shamelessly in home condtions!
I bet austalian tali would have carried through to victory in that type of scenario.
Just go back to statistics and records tosee how many times , Sachin has fought single handedly & the surrounding support, including the alleged match fixing types!?

Prem
Any more evidence required than this?
If I were Bari Kokani's counsel, I would advise him against hyperbole and providing evidence for the opposition.

You are behaving like a kid, Bob. If Bari Kokani is using the word Symonds does not like, is it evidence against Harbhajan.

I cannot believe Australian laws work like that.

Long and short of it
by Abhishek Banerjee on Jan 08, 2008 02:34 PM  Permalink

Prem,... you totally rock man. But the long and short of it is this. Ricky Ponting is embarrassed that he is incapable of playing Harbhajan Singh, and is happy to try anything to see Bhajji out of the side. Symonds' monkey business is just an excuse.

Absolutely Great Article
by Santhanakrishnan Swaminathan on Jan 08, 2008 02:32 PM  Permalink

But I wonder Australians win at all cost attitude will allow them to think clear to accept your argument. I would probably argure Mike Proctor is Racist in taking Symonnds word and not Sachins!

Beautifully written!
by VASUDEVAN V on Jan 08, 2008 02:32 PM  Permalink

Excellent Mr.Panicker! There is no doubt that India was cheated out of a draw, if not a win, in the Sydney Test. It is not only the Umpires, even the Australian players contributed to it by their so called `hard' play. Ponting says Australians play `hard and fair'. After seeing the Sydney Test, one certainly can say that they play hard, but certainly not `fair'. They are quoting a couple of LBW decisions against Laxman and Tendulkar to equate with the wrong decisions suffered by India. Let us make one thing clear. All teams in international cricket suffer because of LBW decisions. The decisions, for or against, are more often than not based on conjecture and even the hawk eye is not fool proof. Hence, let us leave all the LBW decisions out of the picture - including the crucial one given against RP Singh when India was fighting to save the match. Even hawk eye showed that this delivery would only have hit the top of the bail and the benefit of doubt should certainly have gone to RP Singh. But, as I said, leave LBW out of the picture. Let us only concentrate on the catches and the stumpings which are more straight forward and can easily be adjuticated in replays. Here, only India suffered and lost the match. The umpires were totally wrong in most of these decisions, Australians were very bad sportsmen and India lost. Ponting should be sakced as Australian captain for his unsportsman like behaviour not only now, but even in the past!

Excellent
by prasad avln on Jan 08, 2008 02:30 PM  Permalink

A very well written article i must confess and really hope that someone can put it in the australian press or send a fax of the same to the persons who are responsible for this nuisance. Mr. Prem you ought to personally take care to see that the message is conveyed across the table. Thanks for the support.
