I think we have to start looking at captaincy as a job and responsibility; not as a position of power. Ganguly will be playing "with" Dhoni, not "under" him.

this is the kind of racism that leaves india lagging behind... you are forgetting some of the good muslim players that we have had in recent years - kaif, pathan, zaheer khan etc. A player's commitment and abitlity matter - not his caste or religion. And please don't call yourself a patriot. You are a disgrace to this great country. I am pretty sure you don't have the balls to come out and talk crap to any minority face-to-face, you can only do it behind the computer screen. Pansy. We need people like you out of this country.
An also ran from a backward caste and backward state as captain! Looks like the UPA is very good at pulling such tricks on us. First it was purrtiba patil, now dhobhi!

There is always a wise-crack like this who would get either a caste/religion/region aspect. GET OUT OF YOUR SMALL, NARROW APPROACH TO LIFE...

Mr. Gopal Krishna..Atleast try to write something which could be acceptable or is worth thinking about. You are being juvenile here.

Sometimes truth can be a bit too harsh Mr.Pai. We should confront it instead of looking away and hoping that nothing of that sort happened!
RE:Backward Cricket Committee of India!

Mr.Krishna, just have a look at what U have written. The people who choose captain have much more International cricketing experience than all the people writing here put together. BCCI is an autonomous body, on which Government has no contro. Thus, bringing UPA into this matter is not only juvenile, its totally uncalled for.
RE:Backward Cricket Committee of India!
by Gopal Krishna on Sep 19, 2007 12:42 AM Permalink
Mr.Pai, I am sure you are well aware that the man heading BCCI is also a prominent minister in the UPA cabinet. There are conflicts of interests that make the BCCI intertwined with the UPA giving the government implicit control on everything from team selection to venue allocation. It is not a figment of my imagination, but a FACT! Come out of your denial mode and smell the coffee Mr. Pai!
RE:Backward Cricket Committee of India!

I find hard to accept your presumption that the BCCI chief has no say in team/captain selection. Mind you, Sachin was sounded for captaincy for both Tests/ODIs and we would never know what conspired behind the scenes that the ODI captaincy has been handed over to a lame duck candidate. I wouldn't jump the gun until they announce the test captain. Wait and watch!

With due respects to your opinion, I still beg to differ from you. Yes Mr.Pawar is a minister, but his views are not taken into consideration in a team selection meeting. Had Mr.Pawar had anything to with that, he would have chosen Tendulkar ahead of Dhoni. I know many a people who have been writing against so called Marathi lobby must be disappointed now, since they dont have anything to rant about. Yuvraj could have been made a captain, but he has still made it to the test team. Hence Dhoni was the only logical choice. I am not a big Dhoni fan. But we have to be fair here. Dhoni was made captain because of his cricketing ability and NOT because he belongs to SC/ST.

oh my gopal krishna, if you are thinking of "backward" in everything then look at your ID (i don't think this is your name), gopal krishna is the name of Krishna and he is believed to be from backward community yadava. so try to remove these kind of vulgar beliefs and thoughts and try to be a human being.
Making Dhoni as captain only for one-day means we are not having any candiate who can be Captain. Shame on selectors and Board, who are not able to add even a single young and stable cricket.
hi every body, till yesterday i think selectors have brain from today onwards i think selectors need to join mental hospital.what is the use of dineesh karthik.either dhoni will with one glouse and karthik will wear one more glouse.and next sewag.selecrtors need to bring the statstics of the worldcup and Recent 20 20 world cup they will just compare the statstics with yuvraj, dhoni and shewag then u know who will best.ok dhoni is a captain that is not a problem.and one more thing rohit sharma didn't played even single match in england and present 20 20 world cup till now. but selectors decide he will unfit.just remove ediot karthik.ramesh power will have one berth in 15 memebers squad because of sharad power.because both r power's that is the reason.select just use brains not poltics.india already come back from worldcup this reason only.

I agree with you that the selectors r unfair with Rohit sharma. He should hav been given a chance in one day squad( or atleast in this T20 tourni ) which will help to gauge his performance and talent. When players like Ajit agarkar is playing for India, no one can save India.( selecting him for T20 is heights of stupidity ). But there is nothing wrong in keeping Karthik in the squad. He had shown enough potential as a player( apart from his wicket keeping skills ) till the one day series in Eng.( that too he was experimented with his batting position and if you take the statistics, he had saved a lot of ODIs for India in his usual 7th position ). Also he captained and performed well for TN team which won the T20 tournament( the only one tourni, which was conducted in India so far between the regional states like ranji trophy ). So he looks like a player for the Future and its unfair to abuse him just becoz of one bad series( afterall he was the highest scorer in the Recent test series against Eng ).

Let Dinesh Karthik come in Alien age and play for India. We are talking about the present and BCCI is just like a Travel Agent who is making onsite travel arrangements for player like Dinesh Karthik. Show me Dinesh Karthik performance apart from S.Africa tour and we are talking about International 20 20 match and you are giving statistics about TN 20 20 match. Actually he is a state level and not a national level
RE:Selectors don't have brain

We have'nt played 20-20 match after that SA tour( till this T20 WC )... Only T20 tourni after that was that national level event where all the states from India are divided in to 2 groups and played. If Ranji trophy is considered the ebtry ticket to Indian Test/ODI team, this tourni does'nt look inferior to any of these.( infact all the Indian team players played for their respective sides in this tourni ).
OK... lets take ODIs. Ever since he was recalled to the ODI team, look at the following statistics.
1) saved the T20 match Vs SA 2) saved the 2nd ODI Vs WI in home series. 3) Almost got to the sight of victory Vs SL in the next ODI series. 4) Saved a ODI(along with Yuvraj) Vs SA in the 3 match ODI series in Ireland. 5) Saved the 1st ODI of the series Vs Bangladesh( with Dhoni ). 6) Even in this poor ODI series against Eng, he played sensibly in the 1st ODI( 45 N.O ), but it went on a losing note and no one was there to support him. 7) Apart from this he is very consistent in Tests.
For a player who showed lots of promise and composure, its unfair to gauge his performance just becoz one bad ODI series. He'll rock...

Ramesh Powar ka pet dekhke lagta hain ki abhi woh Jr. Sharad Powar ko delivery karega....Thats why he is still in the team
Where are all the MS Dhoni supporters?? Come join this blog, i want to spit my venom all over you people!! Phsss..... phssssss............phssssssh................. phssssshh..........
All guys who support MS Dhoni don't understand an iota of cricket at the highest level... Esp. when you are up against Australia!! You need a rough and tumble guy like Ganguly to handle the Aussie goons, he will take the fight to them, that is the only way you gonna beat them!! Not by playing and behaving pansy or soft!! Even Sachin is not tough enough cos he praises Warne too much, Dravid showered praise on Flintoff recently! The moment you ingratiate in front of opponents, you give them an edge!!
Have you people ever heard Dada Sourav Ganguly showering praise on opposition?? NEVER!!!!!!! Cos he is a truly competitive guy who never gives an inch to the opposition!! We need such tough as nails people!!
