You may be right Gavin. BUT...
by shi vak on Oct 10, 2007 03:15 PM  Permalink

Bantering and talking of the opponent's weakness between themselves to get into the skin of the batsman might be the Aussie way and it might have been working for them very well over the years. And also, it may be true (who can deny with Sachin's example over the years?) that the way to get the Aussies uncomfortable might be to ignore their bantering and focus on the job on hand. And in the eyes of the Aussies, the Indian players are not really "standing up" to them by their current approach. But mate, there are cries all over the cricketing fraternity, articles written all over (including by you), so much of talks at the pre/post match press conferences, plenty of media attention etc. etc. about this Indian team's fiery behaviour on the field. Doesn't it mean that this is getting under the Aussie's skin? Not just the players'...

I really agree with you on each and every word. I hope my country's team understand this concept and implement it in the games they in future.

One thing is pretty clear. You are not watching any of the matches that Australia has played or is playing. Otherwise you wouldn't be making such irrelevant comments.

Gavin has spilled the beans
by Raghu on Oct 10, 2007 03:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Contrary to what many may feel about this article - i think it has given a lot of insight into the mindset of a typical aussie.
1. they are good in doing their job
2. they know it
3. they also know many others (other teams) are good in their job
4. they always want to win
5. how to do it?
6. start by bullying the opponent.. if he falls for the trap then they win, else my friends - the aussies are down and out..

because they dont have an answer when the opponent does not buy their bait..
so, all our young indian players need to read this article and start concentrating on their strenghts and natural game - that is aggression and fighting fire with fire... that is the only way to win against the aussies.
getting into verbal & physical conflicts is not aggression - it is only going to make the aussies stronger cuz they are going to have the last laugh if our players continue to do that..

Bullshit from little known

Who is Gavin? I cannot find him Google too....I think he doesn't have a job in hand and for this article, Cricket Australia can give him a job. Team India....don't worry. Aussies have started feeling the heat, eating their own curry cooked decades back. Aussies are also losing their mental toughness as we have seen on many occasions in the recent past....against England in Australia and against Zimbabwe, Pakistan & India in T20 series. Gavin......go give some much needed advice to Aussies.

pl dont waste ur time by finding him in google.
it does not matter who he is but what he has said is important. it makes lot of sense for indian players to start concentrating on their game at hand than performing on and off the field antics

The best way to make a person shut up is not saying anything at all . This is what we were taught when we were kids .

And the best compliment is what yr opponents give u . If you are put the above in reference to context of what has happen it will answer your question .

The main thing we must understand is . Australia are a class ahead of any team in int cricket . To beat them anywhere is not easy . And India's record against Australia is quite good . If u compare Aus to SA and Aus to England . You will get the answer to your question .

Our Press is screwed just to fill in space they will write anything .

20-20 hangover must be gone and we must begin to face reality . We have a long way to go still in our quest to being no. 1 , but we can get there .

Regards
Prakash

my friend the only reality is that we are the world chapions ....let the indian cricketers as well as us celebrate till the next world cup and again bring that home
We are WORLD CHAMPIONS and thats the reality...atleast I have no problem if india losses all its matches till the next world cup
cmon man let take the pressure off our players yaar let them have a few beers
the main thing u need to understand is australia used to be a class ahead now India is the class ahead
No that is not entirly correct to shut up when u want someone else to shut up....sometimes u got to punch them on their respective noses to make them shut up

Nice try Gavin who ever you are..
by Wonky Monky on Oct 10, 2007 02:51 PM  Permalink

mate, i've played enough cricket in the UK, and India to know that the aussies looked ruffled after the 4th ODI. Indian's do aggressiveness differently, we have no intentions of following Aussie footsteps, if we did we'd always be one step behind. We'll find our own way, we play with passion from the heart, NOT passion from bad Cascade (XXX) beer. Your article did show one thing though, that the Aussies are scared and don't quite know how to react to India's tactics. Suck it up. what say mate?

Right and Wrong
by Vamsi Vanteru on Oct 10, 2007 02:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What Gavin said had both some rights and some wrongs. Though you have to agree with most of what he said, what I have also realised is though Sreesanth seemed to have lost his cool, I have also never seen the Australians react so
much to an opponent in recent times, even during Steve Waugh's time. This perhaps has shown that in the face of uncontrolled aggression the Australians have also lost the plot of their controlled banter and have been reacting to the Indian aggression rather than sticking to their Banter. Only thing which still acts for them is that their team is genuinely the strongest team in the world today and they would be willing most of their games with or without banter. But the few losses they come across will pain them more when it happens against uncontrolled aggression. And the fact that they lost a game at chandigarh from position of strength goes on to show that maybe this uncontrolled aggression is actually getting to them. And when a team loses a couple of games tahts when the so called cool a team displaces goes for a six. Dont forget that the youngsters in the team who hail from smaller towns get galvanised when they see raw action on the field rather than matured chess play. So who knows this Sreesanths behaviour as irritating as it may seem today might actually give returns in the long run.

i dont quite agree to you because the game the aussies lost, sreesanth was not even playing..
i think india played good cricket on the 4th odi and the bowlers in particular did a good job in making a quick aggresive comeback..
dont also forget that aussies were very close to winning the game expect for the crucial symmonds wicket...
i still feel india has to concentrate on their natural game and strenght than getting into verbal duels with the aussies.

You also have to ask the question, why did Austrlia who have always won close games because of their mental toughness lose close games to India both in Chandigarh and twenty twenty, if not for sreesanth getting under their skin. Maybe sreesanth did not play that game, but his effect can be seen now
