It was a good all-round performance by India at Guwahati on Monday. After Malik chose to bat on a sluggish pitch, Salman Butt was the day's morning hero as he stroke the ball so sweetly for his 50, studded with 8 boundaries. But for Yousuf's 83 not out, Pakistan would have ended with a far lesser total than 239/7 even as the visitors felt Inzamam's absence. After Sachin's early exit, Gambhir missed his 50 only by 6 runs but was involved in a brisk partnership with Ganguly before being bowled by an Afridi special! Dhoni-Yuvi partnership scotched the visitors' chances of clawing back into the match with an enterprising century stand. Few would disagree that it was Bhajji-Murali bowling partnership who conceded just 65 runs between them in their 20 overs, that won the match for the hosts. The Indian skipper deservingly won the MOM award.
Why INDIAN seniors do not retire gracefull? why are selector are forced to DROP, REST OR ROTATED them. If these senior retire on their own when the time comes, than there would not be so much of RAW deal, bad traetment etc. If Dravid is taken in team who will be out of 11? Ghambir or Uthapa. Because of these senior, Raina, Manoj tiwari are out of the teams. In my opinion time has come for TRIMURTI to retire gracfull. Talk of 2 years of cricket still left in me is all rubish. We don't want to treat our heroes badly but these heros should also release that their time has gone so get out otherwsie we will be force to push them out which will hurt both. them as well as us.

I agree with you Abbas. But some people still dont understand this would blindly support Sourav-Sachin. They dont see youngsters like Raina, Tiwari, Badrinath, Praveen Kumar, Rohit Sharma knocking the doors. Selectors wont give any opportunities to these players, but instead would continue with Zaheer, Sachin, Sourav. These youngsters wont even get chances like Agarkar and Ramesh Powar. Ramesh Powar took 5 wickets in Ranji, I m sure he will be included in the next matches!!! This is how BCCI works!!
As expected I think it will be series between yousuf and younis representing Pakistan and India on the other hand. They are going to feel the pinch of Inzamam not being their as that guys was very adaptable. I would definitely value him more than even Tendulkar as he had a cool head and could finishes matches without much ado. But unfortunately for our Tendulkar the ball somehow keeps low and he is bowled or LBW in a pressure situation( Ball seems to do funny things only for him that is what our commentators make us believe) they are biased as far as Dravid is concerned he is not even given a fair chance to prove himself how many times should he prove himself good only knows. India is winning because we have one Kar less in Agarkar if he was around Pakistan could have easily reached 280 and we would have lost the match. Pathan did a terrific job in controlling the middle overs. I think he is a better utility cricketer than Agarkar and I also feel they should look beyond Tendulkar why not when they do it for Dravid. I agree Dravid can be slow but at least he is a better finisher than Tendulkar when we chase down scores

You seem not to know that Sachin is a opener and please enlighten me how many times an opener has finished the match when the total is above 225..Rarely. Sachin plays his part most of the times. 29 out of his 40 ODI centuries is for winning cause. His career strike rate is 85. You are right pakistan coul have reached 280 had Sachin not removed Afridi at a crucial time.
Many 'kar's are great and many are not so great i guess you hate all kars How about veer savarkar

Hitesh Sharma, Do u remember semi final of world cup 1996?? How much was the target before Indian team??? And what happened to Sachin Tendulkar at that time??? The matches sachin would have won with his batting are countable on fingers : Sharjah Cup against australia...tht's it!!! How many big tournaments have we won because of Sachin's batting?? How many world cup we have won because of Sachin?? Mind you Sachin has played 5 world cups.

Inzimam also batted at number 3 and won the match many times. I can also give you an example of Bangalore match in the last tour of pakistan when Sachin was not opening and India were truly on course of winning the series 1-0 with only a post tea session pending. Then all of sudden following Sachin's advise they went into a shell which allowed Inzimam to bring all the fielders in and Kaneria won the match for them and levelled the series. I hope you understand that the character of our senior cricketer rubs on to your team. I am still a big fan of Tendulkar only thing is I feel sometimes he is bit selfish. I dont have anything against kars only few kars like Vengsarkar who has different ways of judging people. I felt Dravid matter could have been dealt in a better way

what you mean is support mumbai lobby is okay let us have Powar, Agarkar back in the team
There are only 2 seniors in the present ODI team. Saurav is on his way out and is still performing. Sachin is only left. SO WHICH YOUNG TALENT WAS NOT GIVEN CHANCE. I am surprised all are being given chance.
People are making hue and cry as if we have rested Ricky Ponting to play Sachin.
Moreover Sachin such a useful player. Cab bat take couple of odd wickets and assist the captain when required.

what about his batting when we chase big scores. how many times has he hit the winning runs?. How come ball keeps low only for him in pressure situations. Dravid was a better finisher

please give the statiscs of dravid as a good finisher and how many times he get man of the match ?

if you go by the statistics it gives you a blurred view because it will take your matches against Kenya, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe also into consideration. Our people are short sighted and they have different scales for measuring different people it looks like that

his money making skill and lobbying with the bigwigs of indian cricket is forgotten i think. that is his major skills
Mr.Bhushan Parab, I m glad to be Indian and I m not a Paki supporter. But useless cricket lovers like u wont understand what I m saying. For you Sachin is everything whether or not he plays. I m not only commenting against Sachin but I have also commented against Zaheer Khan who is also a Muslim. Please the debate is all about cricket so let us restrict our talks to cricket only instead of abusing anyone's cast, creed or religion. We have to understand the very important fact that YOUNGSTERS r the future of Indian cricket and they deserve opportunities. I m not asking the trio and Zaheer Khan to retire. This should be a smooth transition. Unless these youngsters get chances how would they prove themselves??? Mind you these youngsters have made India win a world cup whereas Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, Zaheer had never helped India to win even a single world cup.
RE:Why not yongsters??
by jaguar tech on Nov 06, 2007 11:07 AM Permalink
I agree with you Usman. I also feel the same. Zaheer somehow lacks the killer instinct and he is pretty predictable after a couple of fours are hit. It looks like he just goes blank I have never seen him try out some variation at least. Pathan seems to have learnt. He is also multidimensional. Only good thing Zaheer did was win the match of dead rubber in Mumbai against Australia. And let us not talk about caste. Remember Pathan was the man of the match in the final in T20 cup. Let us not behave like irrational Shoib Malik who asked for forgiveness from all the muslims for having lost the match against India. Now the world is seeing the things happening in the Pakistan political scenario. I strongly believe there are more people who support this country irrespective of caste or creed. I saw it in the eyes of Pathan's father after our victory
RE:Why not yongsters??

Yes Jaguar. That's what I mean to say by smooth transition. Let there be a mix-n-match of youngsters and seniors. This will help the Indian cricket team and the selectors also.

Hi Usman I am talking only abt sachin ,saurav, dravid ---pl do not firget the trio has served the country for almost two decades and even today they carry the averages much higher than the newcomers who just sparkle like diwali crackers and vanish ,i can throw many such names --but doing it consistently for many yrs calls for caliber which the trio has shown and are still displaying the same ---so let us all join in respecting the trio as well our other heros who are consistent and not give newcomers a chance just for the sake of it--as every match is imp and so is victory--regds

RAINA AND TIWARY GOT TO 200...WITH A STRIKE RATE OF 100...WHILE DRAVID GOT A STRIKE RATE OF 40
