The problem with making a deal with anything in India is the lack of consensus. This shows not only in the Nuke deal or Dabhol but in every aspect of life. Indian curriculum must include basic lessons in good manners, civility, punctuality, professionalism, respect for authority, elocution and courtesy. This is what is going to make Indians stand out in the long run. Right now professionalism is badly lacking in India. Or India will fast lose credibility as a good place to do business with.
Indian team thought that they do not need coach because they beat good teams but this is absolutly negative thinking if aussies think likes that then they do nt need a coach this is something bad from indian need kirsten is right choice

I am not at all convinced about the need to appoint a foreign coach (or even any coach for that matter)for the Indian cricket team. Agreed that Gary Kirsten was a sound batsman and highly regarded during his playing days but he has negligible coaching experience. He has also made certain rather racist and improper remarks about India and his trip to the country in 1996-97 in his autobiography, which should be viewed seriously as they are a pointer to his character and his attitude towards Indians in general. He is coming here largely for the money and the high-profile nature of the job rather than any other 'higher considerations'. Besides, some members of the Indian team are senior to him and boast of a superior career record as well. There is no doubt that they will not respect his authority too much (and quite rightly so in my opinion !). I can't help but conclude that his appointment is just another manifestation of the severe inferiority complex and slavish mentality which most Indians unfortunately suffer from till date ! This is a move on the part of the BCCI that is more than likely to go wrong with bad consequences for all concerned.

You are right. When we have good candidates like Amarnath, Srikanth, Sandip Patil in our own country, why should we go for a foreign coach. This shows our slavish mentality and biased thinking that anything Indian is not good and anything foreign must be good. It seems Gavaskar and Shastri are the ones who recommended Kirsten. Why should BCCI should listen yield to their recommendations? Both of them are mean minded fellows and they won't take the responsibility of coaching the Indain team and won't allow other deserving Indian candidates to do the job.
Well, India need a very good coach..He should workout new formulas for the success of the team.He should take the initiative to make them or play them better. In my opinion,Indian coach(experienced) is good for indian team, rather than other foreign coach, because one indian can know (understand)another indian. All the best for indian team for their future matches...!!!

Why not consider Mohinder Amarnath. He has a great temprement and he is balanced. He will not treat the players like little school children. Players are scared of that in Indian coaches.
I beleive that modern day cricket needs a coach for every team. The captain and his wards need to only worry about their fitness and basic game.the intelligence , the pros and cons of facing the opposition, the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the opposition, the ground conditions, the basic strategies should be outsourced to the Coach of the team.
The coach should take the initiative to formulize the off-field strategy, chalk out plans A,B and C and then mould a team together from the out fit given. The execution of course is the responsibility of the captain and his 10 Commandos.
I am okay with either a foreign coach or an Indian coach as long as he fulfills the above criteria.

Well said. I vote for the foreign coach. Indian Coaches may find it hard to deal with our 'Superstars'.
Dev Whatmore should have been the ideal choice for coaching Indian Team. He has the proven calibre and was too willing to accept the job. But one person who has always played Cricket for himself (not for the country)and who has the distinction of scoring 36 n.o. in 60 overs ODI (readers may recall that he had opened the innnings and faced maximum number of balls in that match)ensured that India never gets a competent coach at all.
Before the Coach Selection process becomes another laughing issue, let the BCCI assert itself and re-constitute the Coach Selection Board with really competent people. BCCI also has a misconception that only a foreign coach is suited for India. This thinking has to change as Mr. Sandip Patil and Mr. Rajput have also done good jobs as coaches. Ofcourse, one advantage with the foreign coach is that he is free from petty regional politics.

What is wrong with a foreign coach?I DON'T buy the idea that Indian team is different in culture and players from different states in India can only be managed by an Indian coach.
I am sure any coach with the right kind of vision would be very effective for Team India.
And Team India does not have any trouble mongers in its team like some other teams have. All Indian players have a good discipline and they respect each others and themselves a lot.So that should not be an issue at all.
But Venky , Robin Singh and Gary ...should put team interests above their ego and work for continued and collective glory.
i appreciate gary kristen for thinking abt senior player's feeling.........it gud to clarify all thing....i hope coaching of gary kristen will work very well........bcoz this show that he understand other feeling very well...........

Looks like he will be more sensitive to players than Greg Chappal who was ill treating Ganguly.
India has always played well at Home. But wait till they tour Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They they will need all the coaching in the world. The seniors must change their mindset and allow the coach to do his job.
After greg chappell episode everybody knows ind cricket is hyjacked by politics power money influence and groupism.Kirsten should comprermise like jogn wright or he will face the same treatment what happened to chapeell

What approval he needs one can't understand. He should be able to command respect with his sheer personality. It is better to drop him at this stage and look for someone else with stature. He sure is a cribber...

Greg chappel played politics with Indian cricketers. With his stooge, Rahul Dravid, he tried to eliminate players he did not like. Not only that, he was responsible for this senior junior divide in the Indian Cricket team.
He wanted to promote player like Venugopal rao who does not even has international standard.
BCCI and people who did not get Indenpendence from 'Gora' thinking, can only appreciate Greg Chappel.
