Sending back Pathan
by Vineesh Vedsen on Jan 07, 2007 09:54 PM  Permalink

Hi,

It was an absolutely wrong decision, like most others enforced by Dravid on Indian cricket.

One wonders at how many gaffes can Mr. Rahul Dravid make at a time.

His capacity is unsatiable and the sufferer is Indian cricket.

First he wanted to keep a left hander top of the order to keep Saurav out of the team.

He coaxed Pathan into taking more responsibilities as a captain. Poor fellow did it with rich dividends. But in doing this, when he started losing his edge as a bowler, he was subjected to real torture by Dravid on the Windies tour.

This ensured that Pathan keeps going down all the way. When he is totally undone as a bowler, he has been asked to go back.

It is time Dravid was pulled up for all his inuendoes in the last one year. The simplest thing is sack him as captain, if India is to make any impact in the World Cup.

Anyway he has been largely cut to size with Pawar and Vengsarkar getting in Saurav and Laxman into the team. Obviously that was not on Dravid's agenda. They asked him to sit out of last 2 ODIs against SA too.

It was a right move
by Gunjan on Jan 07, 2007 09:14 PM  Permalink

HI ,

I thk sending back Pthan for regaining his form is a right move. BUt i m a firm beliver that this should not be kept limited to him the other players int the team who r not performing on the field should be given same treatment after all what is important is TEAM INDIA and for that we have to take some hard steps. The current series loss to south africa has shown that this team needs some hard steps to be taken so that all thoes who play on the fild must have in their minds that their position is not secure if they are not delivering on the field.

The coach is also responsible for the Pathan form thses guys play with him a lot trying to make him all rounder and takes away his natural insincts. So, i thk that it is a failure of Guru Chapple also who is not able to give a single gud win in his current spain as coach but has given some hard times for the Team India viewers.

Hope that BCCI would wake up now and take some agressive step to make sure that who deserve the best should not be kept outside.

Rgds.

Gunjan

Ridiculous
by norman on Jan 07, 2007 08:30 PM  Permalink

Why is pathan being targeted, what about sehwag who is at the lowest scoring, why target a individual just because he has no godfather to support.

Non Performers
by godzilla on Jan 07, 2007 07:42 PM  Permalink

Tendulkar and Shewag have not performed anything worthwhile for more than a year now. Yet their places are reserved in the team. Whereas Sourov was asked to play local tournaments, prove his form and come back and Irfan has been sent back to regain his form in the midst of a tour.

Biased and partisan is shown towards non performers like Sachin and Shewag and even if they did not perform, Commentators like Harsha Bhogle, Gavaskar and Ravi Shashtri praise them skyhigh, which is baffling.

Unless we follow Australina method of selecting players based on their performances, our Cricket will become on par with Keynya, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. God Save Indian Cricket. !!!

calling back of pathan
by jaishree on Jan 07, 2007 07:05 PM  Permalink

it is necessary that those who cant perform should be asked to go & play in national teams. It wold have been wise if sahwag was also sent back with pathan.we might have done better.

The decision to bring back pathan to india is indeed a very harsh decision.if u compare him with other players then in my opinion Virendra Sehwag should be brought back to india instead of Irfan Pathan. This decision of the board can discourage a player and may ruin in career.

Yes but Viru also must have been back
by Sushanta Bala on Jan 07, 2007 12:18 PM  Permalink

Why not Viru too?

However, Pathan must be there in the WC 2007.

It was not right to send Pathan back
by Rohit Kapoor on Jan 07, 2007 12:29 AM  Permalink

It was not right to send Pathan back. Pathan was even batting freely than other batsman by seeing the present situation of the Indian Cricket Team. He made 100 odd runs before the test series. If he was not bowling up to the mark than give him couple of more changes to show some good performance. If he is not bowling like he was but he is batting better than the other indian good batsmans. He is a real allrounder in our team which we were struggling to get from last number of years. So he should be a part of present indian team. He should include in team for next couple of series and world cup too.

From my point of view, Sending Pathan back to india in between the series was very bad decission taken.

Example: What was the need of Munaf Patel included in the last test match? He did not do anything in the Match? If Pathan would have been in the team other than Munaf Patel, he would have shown some improvement in the batting or in the bowling side of the indian strength....I would say consider him even if he is not bowling upto the mark. Consider his allround performance, not only bowling.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks & Regards,
Rohit Kapoor

Dravid, Pathan and Sehwag
by Dr.D.M.Sagar on Jan 07, 2007 12:13 AM  Permalink

While about 90% of the country is counting on these 11 players why the hell they play like a street-cricket?. When it was proved evidently Sehwag is a failure as an opener why the hell Dravid sent him as opener?.

Pathan shouldn't have been sent back - people may argue that it was good for the indian team whereas it was NOT!. Such a sending back surely will affect his confidence. Confidence is a key to players (unless they donot know the game). The experiment of Chapel and Dravid has messed up the Indian team as many of the players donot know or confused about what the are!!. Dravid!, this is not a physics lab to do experiment on every damn day. Chapel got hold of Indian team - as if a monkey is given a jewel.
