One step forward! Two steps back ward !!
by UMASUTARAO on Dec 28, 2005 09:00 PM  Permalink

Waqar is correct to say, while most of the critics were hesitant to talk about the "king's magic cloths"!BCC has not set a good example by making the selectors choose "woefully out of form Ganguly" to be selected, in the first place as an all rounder and in Test team to tour Pakistan when he was dropped earlier! Pakistan speedesters would find him a "sitting duck" to their bouncers, and must be licking their lips to bowl at him! Why the whole of Bengal, the CM of WB,the Central Minister/s from WB and the Speaker from WB have gone all out to show their "regionalism" for re-selecting Ganguly! This is bad for the Indian Cricket! Indian Team is NOT representing WB but the whole country! It is known fact that the Bengal Tiger "pulls his tail between the legs" and withdraws from playing eleven when likes of Shane Bond or Brett Lee bowls! He preferred not to play in Ranji matches for fear of failure !God save Ganguly! God save Indian Team !! Hope even if he doesnot score runs, he would not cause "groupism" among the Team India and doesnot set an example of Indiscipline quarelling with the Coach and leaking out dressing room discussions to the media !!

I have not seen any of our cricketrs or sports scribes make any comment on any cricketers of Pakistan. The fact is that Ganguly took Pakistan on the rise last time, and the best way to keep a pressure on him is saying all these things.Just you wait Younis Bhai...it will be Ganguly who will blast your team.

Just because he ensured your exit!

How unprofessional. Just because this guy lost his cap because of Sourav he is bad mouthing him. No wonder the ISI still smarting about the 1971 defeat by India. And look at the ludicrous rediff.com publishing nonsence from a super failed captain! Just like rediff.com - try to be Indian for a change!

Let's NOT make rediff a Pakistani propaganda machine please!
by Rakesh on Dec 28, 2005 08:14 PM  Permalink

Openness of the media is important, but I see no point in rediff publishing so many Pakistani (ex) cricketers' opinions every now and then on Indian team selection or debating the selectors' choice. Why don't I see Pakistani media printing Indian cricketers opinions on PCB selectors' choices? We must be as such extremily careful on what the opponents says, as of course, they are not going to speak their mind. So, why can't the media behave more responsibly and refrain from publishing what Wasim Akram, Shoab Akhtar, Inzy, Waqar Younis or any given Pakistani paanwala or chaiwala say or think of the Indian team or their selection process. We don't care........ period.

One sensible brain in the midst of a bunch of fools

Of all the articles that i have been reading on rediff, this is one guy that has spoken some sense. It is now very clear that ganguly has got into the team on sympathy and mediocre performance ,( please..enough of his "wonderful" 39 and 40 ). waqar has been one non-indian who has spoken sense. yes ganguly is pathetic nowadays, though the selectors made asses of themselves first picking him as an allrounder, etc. compare waqar ( who was a real tough cookie in his time ) to ranatunga , who changes what he says in each column more times than we wash hands in a day!! we, as true cricket lovers hope that the media stops playing dirty double games just in order to make people read more of the crap that they dish out. well said waqar ! he has been one of the few people ( other than peter roebuck and trevor chesterfield ) to have spoken sense. ganguly's inclusion in this young fit team is nothing but a policy by the bengalis, for the bengalis and of the bengalis ( to modify what abraham lincoln said to suit this indian tamasha ). too bad dinesh karthik, u dont have someone to burn effigies or swing cycle chains or conduct mock rituals in tamilnadu!!

Great Analysis. I keep seeing all these messages supporting Ganguly's inclusion which makes me wonder if people are making these comments purely on cricketing merits. How else can you justify including a completely out of form of batsman compared to a rising talent like Kaif?

Pak people are doing this simply to create pressure on Sourav. It is as simple as that.
by Meghadoot Chaudhuri on Dec 29, 2005 06:39 PM  Permalink
This doctorate cannot understand one simple thing. Waqar has done this simply to create pressure on Sourav, and the opportunity has been provided by our selectors by not including Sourav in the third test against SL. Waqar discussed how 'badly' Sourav played in Delhi test, but did not bother to discuss how 'wonderfully' the other contender Kaif played in the Motera test to justify his selection.

Young age cannot be the sole criterion for selection.

Aussies are winning not just because they replace players so frequently. They win beacuse they have a better composition comprising better elements. In short, they are winning just because they are the best, we have to accept this truth first.

my friend mr.chaudhuri,
u have told us that pakistan people want to put pressure on saurav. my question to u is simple...does he really deserve to be in the playing 11 ? ( look at yuvraj, whose 75 and 77 helped india win both the home tests ). so where is the question? and how come i dont hear u bengalis ( i think u r one ) bleeding your heart out for a guy like say balaji ( who was wrecker in chief in pakistan last time round ) or zaheer ( the highest wicket taker in ranji trophies now ) ? and how will kaif perform if he knows that whatever he does, until ganguly is struck by a bolt of lightning, he can never make it into the test team? his mediocre performance in the last test made it easier for the selectors and for bengal in general, with ganguly getting the sympathy vote! what a shame! u stand corrected...aussies are much better than us simply because of the pride they have in playing for their nation and their competitiveness . even presenting the cap to a rookie is a major ceremony there. no aussie worth his salt would look to get back into the team on mere sympathy, unlike your great dada!! no wonder indian cricket was so static these years!!

by ganessin on Dec 28, 2005 06:24 PM  Permalink

Your comments against Sourav shows that you are very immature as a analyst.

You will be proved wrong in the forthcoming series.

I hope that waqar grows as a good analyst in future.

I like his bowling very much. I wish sucess for future.

Re:Interview of Mr Waqar Younis
by ssdas on Dec 28, 2005 06:20 PM  Permalink

I don't understand why an Indian website publishes derogatory comments about Indian team and players by an ex-Pakistani cricketer. We seem to be too happy to invite such comments. Have any Pakistani website published such comments by an Indian ex-cricketer? The answer I think is in the negative. There are good ex-cricketers of our country who can do a good SWOT analysis of our team and which is always acceptable.

Picking Sourav is a step back
by Abdul Naeem on Dec 28, 2005 06:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Lets face the fact,Mr. Waqar has got no rights to comment on the selection of the indian team. He speaks of the selection of dada, where as he himself has been in the pakistani team for years just on the basis of the previous games he had played. Moreover when he walked out the team against the then captain Waseem Akram, it goes less to speak of his abality of sportmanship. Mr Waqar dada is comming to terrorise u all again and this time also you all cant excape it.

by S.SKANDA on Dec 30, 2005 11:48 AM  Permalink
mr. naeem, though in principle i agree with u in what u say, pls check a few basic facts.
1. Ganguly coming to terrorize!!! - whom? the under 15 pakistan team?
2. Last time round, for your information, the first test had been won with dravid at the helm. our great captain courageous ganguly came only in the last test to save his butt when pakistan was already on the mat. moreover, it was his replacement yuvraj singh who came to the party in the previous test(s)
3.before once again launching into ganguly's great scores, check out yuvrajs scores ( 77 and 75 ) in the second innings with the tail, and see how they helped win the series at home against sri lanka. and u still want ganguly!! god save india!
4. i think u have too short a memory. i happened to watch the test match in madras ( now against srilanka and a couple of years ago against steve waugh's australia at the peak of ganguly's nagma controversy ). he couldnt play a short ball then and he still cant now...now whatever handeye coordination he had is gone.
let him come back with good local performances my friend...we can then welcome him, but not with politics and regionalism and foolish sympathy alone! what say u all!

Saurav Ganguly selection: one step backwards?
by Vikas Khandekar on Dec 28, 2005 06:03 PM  Permalink

I think, selecting Saurav as an "allrounder" - that too for test matches, and instead of one-dayers, was one step "sideways". Then dropping him altogether, was jumping two steps forward. Whoever knows a bit of chess, will quckly realize that this is how the knights (read - 'Selection Committee') move on the chess board. Any guesses, about who are the ones playing chess, and at whose cost? ;-)

And finally, selecting Saurav for Pakistan tour is one step backward. I say that not because Saurav is undeserving of selection. It is simply because, the earlier step of the selection committee, was nothing short of jumping the gun. "One step backward", is in fact the correct step. Unfortuantely, in such a messy handling of the process, poor Saurav will be needlessly put under undue pressure. These days, every player has to play under pressure, but in Saurav's case, I think it will be unnecessarily that much extra.
