I think, selecting Saurav as an "allrounder" - that too for test matches, and instead of one-dayers, was one step "sideways". Then dropping him altogether, was jumping two steps forward. Whoever knows a bit of chess, will quckly realize that this is how the knights (read - 'Selection Committee') move on the chess board. Any guesses, about who are the ones playing chess, and at whose cost? ;-)
And finally, selecting Saurav for Pakistan tour is one step backward. I say that not because Saurav is undeserving of selection. It is simply because, the earlier step of the selection committee, was nothing short of jumping the gun. "One step backward", is in fact the correct step. Unfortuantely, in such a messy handling of the process, poor Saurav will be needlessly put under undue pressure. These days, every player has to play under pressure, but in Saurav's case, I think it will be unnecessarily that much extra.
