Contradicting himself

How come Patil was able to do such a great job in Kenya being a foreign coach there?

Mr. Wadekar, do you see the irony in your statements? .. LOL!

Wadekar's Comments..
by Pratap on Apr 21, 2005 05:15 AM  Permalink

With all due respect, Wadekar should stop making public comments in such a casual fashion. Watz this fuss about coaches being desi or phoren? These comments are bordering on being racist. Can he explain why a legend like Kapil Dev failed miserably as coach? And the dozens of desi coaches before him?

We need a foreign coach.
by venkat on Apr 21, 2005 03:37 AM  Permalink

A foreign coach can only maintain no barrier among team members coming from different places in the country. Else it will only be the players from North recognized.

Foreign coaches can analyze & manage members better.

reply to wadekar's comments on foreign coaching issue
by kalyan reddy kasarla on Apr 20, 2005 11:10 PM  Permalink

I think its time we start debating over this topic all over again, and as is the case people start talking about indian coaches and not foreign coaches. Well to me the most important thing is whcih person the players are comfortable with of the lot of coaches we are looking at, it doesn't need to be indian as John Wright showed the culture and traditions are all crap( by the way woolmer is doing pretty good job, even though most pakistani players don't speak english). I hope people like miandad and wadekar, bedi and all others who are patriotic and support indian coaches shut their mouths and let the board and the players together decide who the right person is.

No sense having foreign coach
by lrcrm on Apr 20, 2005 09:33 PM  Permalink

Mr.Wadekar... Just a few questions

"We have different players coming from all over the country, speaking different types of languages, different religion; so it is very difficult. Only a past Indian cricketer can understand these things."

Pls name one former cricketeer who can speak many India languages. If there is nobody, then better to have a foreigner with innovative skillsets.
We have had Indians as coaches and will somebody please compare results with Wright's.....

Changes are required and they are required right from the top. We need professionals at that level also with commitmet and responsibility. When a player ca be thrown out for non performance, then why not the maagement as well. Why not use the same stick to measure?

Changes are required in the way the management functions. Maybe a few heads need to roll. But if it is for betterment, then not? Will it work? There is only one way to find out.

He instilled a lot of discipline in the team. We have lots of Indian coaches but were we able to acheive the results.... Lets move towards reality.

We need foreign coaches to bring in innovative and fresh ideas.

Baffling suggestion
by Rohit on Apr 20, 2005 08:55 PM  Permalink

Mr. Wadekar,

I am shocked and baffled at your suggestion. "Why do we need foreign coach when we have greats like Kapil Dev!?!!"

Now this great lead us to Australia and we were beaten 3-0. Players have reported that all he told the players was to "enjoy the game". And this is the guy who convinced Sachin Tendulkar to not enforce the follow-on on New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 1999.

And the different cultures crap does not even hold as we have seen Wright and Woolmer doing such a great job with Asian teams.

Please dont promote a friend and mislead Indian cricket. Shame on you.
