The real innovation takes place in US & Europe. They are ahead of the game. They have govts that understand & support them. For us,it is an endless game of politics that saps all energy.
Some of us work for companies like CISCO. A good beginning. Yes, we were years behind but are moving ahead now, slowly. I have known IIT engineers & IIM graduates working in Nigeria etc.to save as govt & private companies were paying them just enough to eke out a living. The bank managers even got less than clerks because the latter got OT as a right! The earlier cohorts of the present high-flyers in CISCO etc., had no choice but to work in unprofessional outfits facing humiliation. The uneduated but business savvy bosses comments like "why should my sons waste years for MBA when I can employ people like you?" were common. Most did work far removed from their area of specialisations.
China just signed another $15 billion deals with US businesses. They are ahead in the game. Just look at their infrastructure! They jump ahead and still wants better technology from those who marvel at the progress every time they visit China.
To become real leaders, one has to take baby steps & have a system of governace. At least, we know now what it takes, so let us take one step at a time than begrudge others' progress. Laksmi Mittal has proved that single minded devotion can work miracles in a single generation everywhere. We can get there, provided we want to!
