That is because of their status, they can bring to a halt an ongoing activity anywhere in India !!

The sun has sent on the British Empire...
On Nov 16, 2009 10:39 AM   Permalink

Some people still disbelieve that the sun has set on the British Empire and the best example of this is the latest missive i Saamna from Bal Thackeray to Sachin Tendulkar for agreeing that Mumbai belongs to all Indians ! It is good to see the intelligentsia asserting itself in Mumbai and in India.

Rightly said, since he is at present a threat to the security of the nation and its nationals rather than the other way around.

An excellent export opportunity....
On Nov 16, 2009 05:34 AM   Permalink

This is a good opportunity for India to export
these EVMs in large numbers to the US, after rewiring them for 110V/60Hz. Who knows once these EVMs are in use in the US, Al Gore may actually win the next election, should he decide to stand for one, rather than be known all the time as the "Future President of the US" !!

Thanks for your comments. Here are my observations:
1. \"some semblance of law & order
here\". Thanks for letting us
know about the excellent law &
order here, with Shiv Sena open-
ly threatening everyone, physi-
cally assaulting others while
the Govt watches amused. The
reason for inaction, it wants to
split Sena votes first rather
than provide security to the
common man in the street.
2.Your limited IQ is not able to
appreciate the fact that while a
laptop may have a built in battery,
for downloading emails, you need a
modem too, which does not work
when the power snaps. Again, which
UPS sustains power cuts of 8 hours
plus unless you are talking of big
generators. Is that a cost effect-
ive solution ? The solution it to
move towards the modem plug-ins &
I am precisely doing that.

3.I appreciate your efforts to remain smug and satisfied with whatever is thrown at you. But then as a country how do we improve unless we continue to identify the weaknesses in a system, highlight them and fix those weaknesses ?
There is nothing wrong in identifying weaknesses in a system and turning them into \"positives\" after fixing them. You need to look at things beyond the tip of your nose, for a change. And that is called vision, which does not come out from your comments.

I think you said it all. Unless we bring in meritocracy, no dramatic positive change is likely to happen.

Re: Not finding anything better, Rediff settled for this crap

Welcome to India ! You seem to be here for a week or two as a foreign tourist and want to claim to know everything about India and rush to judgments ! This kind of popcorn analysis does more harm than good because it never gets into the depths of the situation. Enjoy your stay while you are here.

Let that remain a secret ! I do not wish to unduly ruffle any feathers. No it was not Deve Gowda.

Shankar, the situation is self expla-natory for all to see. For a Govern- ment to stay in power with a majori- ty, it needs the support of all these corrupt leaders as props. So long as this continues, the law of the land can not touch these corrupt leaders. The corrupt leaders having the party in power in their clutches makes a mockery of the law of the land. This is sad but that is the practical realism of politics, unless the SC decides to intervene.
Unless we can elect the right people with absolute majority, we will have to put up with this sad catch-22 situation.
