Hi, This was going to happen, if the BCCI and Sharad Pawar (including coach and captain) cannot see beforehand they are not capable of running Indian Cricket.
First, they themselves (BCCI, Coach & Captain) did not have confidence in player and delayed the decision for World cup squad until last moment. Every player was always in doubt what is going to happen till last moment and the player invested whatever energy they had to get selected. So, when the world cup started they were very much drained and mentally tired and before they can regain there energy blink your eyes and world-cup is over.
Than there is captain who wants his favorite player to be in team performing and/or not performing, then there is senior player lobby. Tendulkar is one of ther shrewdish player in the team, soft spoken never gets in controversy, avoiding everyting except keeping his place in team. Performed in all non-significant match and got out cheaply in important ones ( let it be Test match or One-Day). I can bet he will be made captain NOW (he will accept the captaincy with very much relunctancy,though)
Dravid, is far worst captain it seems, Ganguly was not performing but team was winning, and always showed his full confidence in young player. I have a feeling, if he was captain we might at least went thru super eight. I curse myself for hating Ganguly as captain, honestly.
Though everybody including BCCI, Captain and Coach are not responsible for the world cup debacle, BCCI -'Player did not perform' (The team selected themselves they were busy signing commercial contracts). Coach -'He was not given right team' (He was coaching farmers). Captain -'Batsmen did not perform'. (They came from Mars, he was not involve in selection, and as he is Captain neither batting or winning game is in his job description)
The morale of the story is we Indian fan are only responsible for the world cup debacle. As once said by Dalmiah it is BCCI team not India team.
