Excessive Media coverage

India undoubtedly played bad cricket. They are capable of much much better showing than what they have done.
Every match in this format is very high pressure game. Every team and every member is subjected to pressure to play well and perform, but india has tons and tons of extra pressure then the other sides in the tournament. Every time inida goes to play major tournements people start performing pooja and 'Japs' and media goes there to cover those events as headlines. They dont understand that the prayers are just a gimmick to come live on TV and news. Even the peoples ire is shown when the players dont perform. Again this is gimmick to get the footage.
This is definately adding up to the already high pressure that is usually associated with the tournament of this nature. Media should just cover the cricket and stop showing the rest, which is anyway not relevant.
Definately the team has underperformed. But media is also to be blamed for the debacle of the teams performance.
One can overcome the pressure that is there on the field and perform but the pressure of expectations is very high. Very very high.subjected to pressure to play well and perform, but india has tons and tons of extra pressure then the other sides in the tournament. I think the players do not desreve to the huge money that they are getting from all sources like Ads etc.. If they can not handle the pressure they should not play. Infact they can handle all money without pressure, they are paid for it.

Fully agree with you Pen. I live in Australia. Here they have one report in the news that Aus thrashed SA and thats it. Not 1 hour of analysing how good we played. Same when Aus lose they have one news story and thats it.

Colin Croft said that there is just way too much pressure on the Indian team (http://www.telegraphindia.com/1070326/asp/sports/story_7566127.asp). I told my wife exactly the same words on saturday night when we were analysing our defeat. The weight of expectations from the billion fans, million dollar sponsorships and shark-like media is just too much. If you watch the Ind vs SL match carefully no one was playing to their ability. Everyone was fearing defeat too much. Something has to be done about it. THe expectations wont change, we need a good psychologist perhaps. Sandy Gordon?
