Whole team is responsible for defeat( if team wins everybody comes to forward to claim the credit) Winning or defeat in matches depends on performance of XI players. Irrespective of captain, coach, pitch, stretagy and conditions. Bangladesh and SL victory against India is best example.
batsman's job is to get runs, specially when team is in trouble in crucial match. Dravid relied on sahcin and ganguly both failed when team required their service. can only lead by example. which is what he demonstrated today by being the top scorerdravid as batsman scored runs in crucial matches when team required not only yesterday but in previous years when ganguly was captain. but where was the service of ganguly and sachin in yesterday's match when team is required.. ganguly and sachin dhoni, yuvraj failed yesterday when team required their service for crucial matA captain is as good as his teammates. It is upto individual players to decide that have to pplay for team or self If bowlers gave 27 extra runs and poor fielding, and ind bataman failed in imp match why should onlycaptain but all XI players should be blamed.?SL scored 113 runs in singles but team played only 43 overs and 106 dot balls. See the players who gone more dot balls in all 3 matches

Which one is better? Slow innings from Ganguly and No innings from others? I am a Thamil Brahmin and Not a Bengali, I am hurt the way people criticise Ganguly and bring in regional considerations. I respect all Ganguly supporters whether Bengali or not for their good cricket sense. Only people with good cricket sense can understand the importance of Ganguly. He deserves a special mention. He should be the coach of India after his retirement. Ganguly is the real leader. In his time there was little politics and Kaif Nehra Yuvi Vajji Laxman all were given due importance and all performed. The Captain however sud be Yuvraj. Gangulys World Cup average is 58. something runs. He all along tried to carry the team along, but could not do so in the last match. Still in this tournement he scored 66 plus 89 plus 7 runs equals to 161 runs at an average of 50.36 runs. Dravid could not take the team along. His personal scores in this tournament are 14 plus 7 plus 60 equals to 81 runs at an average of 20.7 runs. Ganguly although not captain can be more effective if given a higher status under captaincy of Yuvraaj in future. Sachin Dravid cannot be given regular chance ot block the places. They should be given chances only on the basis of Ranji games as happened to Ganguly. Ganguly should be kept at a stretch for two years to give a shape to the team irrespective of his performance. But I understand he will perform well. After two years none of Ganguly, Sachin and Dravid should be given any chance.

Please don't come to any conclusion based on averages. It is dangerous. If one of your feet is in ice and the other in fire, on an average you are OK.
